2 rides in a setup! NO crash! Sound good?

I recently bought a ride. It was the toughest decesion betweeen the Zildjian A Series Ping, A Series Sweet, and the K Custom Ride. The winner was...(drumroll)...the K Custom Ride, 20". I got it home and fell in love. But I still keep thinking about the A Series Sweet Ride, because I liked it's crash qualities, not the ping qualities, the K Custom is the winner there. Then the other day I said to myself "Hey, why not both?!" I'm thinking of having 2 rides and NO crash. I would use the Sweet as my crash, but play it as a ride when I want. What do you guys think?

Err, I think other cymbals should be higher up on your list. Later down the line you can always add in another ride. But with two rides and nothing else you'd be pretty limited.
 
If you're going for a HUGE sound.. I say yes. I LOVE the sound of big crashes.. the sweet ride is just that.

I've played with two rides before.. using either as a crash and my Ping as the main ride.. it's really loud and powerful.
 
Endserenading81, did you actually doubt me on the K Custom? Jk. :) Glad you fell in love with it. As far as two rides go, I agree with Geet. I think using the Sweet ride as a crash gives your playing a different twist, in a good way. Now its just figuring out where you're gonna put that sucker! Keep us informed.

I was just pounding on that K Custom today! Absolutely amazing! Every time I play that ride, I am reminded of what a professional and beautifully crafted instrument this is. I am so in love that I don't want to take it back for the Sweet ride, but instead buy both. I am convinced Enrique. Thanks. And about gettting the safe setup like a ride AND crash, ya see, I don't really care about that. All I care about is the sound I want. Thanks guys.

just be wary of the venue sizes you find yourself playing at. going into a small venue with a couple of 22" strapped on to your kit is not always sensible... i played a two ride no crash set up for ages. the thing i found was when you treat a ride as a crash each hit was tonally slightly different, it sounded like different cymbals... i have now gone back to a ride and crash set up, and am begining to find the crash to be painfully consistant sounding... however, the whole band has been able to turn down a little :). if the intentions are purely for recording then i say go for the two rides... this would also depend on the style of music... i'm starting to feel like i'm chasing my own tail here!!!
 
You know, riding a crash works sometimes too.
If you have a light touch, or hit the bell, you can ride the crash to avoid that too consistent sound of your single large ride.

Just a thought.

Couldn't have said it any better. I ride on a 17". It's always nice to have variety.

or you could be cheap like me and get a crash/ride in one..lol i have a sabian
 
there's quite a few drummers that use the a custom sweet as a crash instead of a ride. the dude from dashboard does.

LOL! Is it a B8? Oh man... if so, I would never go down that route again! They say 'you get what you pay for' for a reason.
