Check out www.soundclick.com/nickzychowicz -- "Goin' West, Down" and "Free and In the Heat". They're two originals of mine that I was working on this summer, and finally decided to put them online. Guarantee you like it!

(Yes, 'Goin' West, Down' ripped off the opening drum line of 'When the Levee Breaks', and was looped over and over. I could not get the sound I wanted, so just stopped trying)

(Does it count as a bump if it's still on top?)

Well anyways, I forgot to ask: Please give me your feedback!

Hey that's pretty good stuff. Great feel to both songs. Very vintage sounding but with a modern edge.

Ummm, is that a money back guarantee?:D

Goin' Down West took waaaaaaaaaayyyy too long to get going. After almost a minute I was convinced that's all there was, and almost stopped the player. I was relieved when it finally kicked off. I think you should shorten that a bit. And the reversed guitar in the intro gets old.

Free and In the Heat has the same reverse guitar thing, only shorter. I think you need to find a different effect. I liked this one a bit more. You have an interesting voice.

I got the idea for the long intro when listening to some Pink Floyd song. It's not radio friendly, but I meant it to be long. Thanks for the honesty though.

Interesting voice? Don't know if that's a good or bad thing lol

Cool!

I agree that the intro is a bit long on goin' west...don't mind the drum beat lift from zep as it deserves being re-used. Great tone and clarity overall.

Personally, I found the hard panning of electric and acoustic to be a bit drastic, but perhaps a nod to more retro mixes. I would've preferred that the guitars be blended a bit more. Cool piece.:)

Free and in the Heat has an even more retro feel in some ways...more crunchy guitar...nice. Love the way it all builds up at times and then tightens right up into a crunch-less groove...only to have the crunchy riff return.

Yep, the first one is very zep and the second very hendrixian...nice goin':D

Going West, I too thought the backwards thing got old fast. Then the drums came in and I thought, "oh a drum loop, he didn't create his own drums.."

Then the acoustic on the right seemed too upfront and dry. It got better though the further it went, good guitar sounds and nice voice. Too bad you can't have big drum rolls using that loop..
Good job overall I'd say!

If it was bad, I would have said 'unique' or something else not as hurtful.

Wait a minute... I was told I had a unique voice!
:o

The intro to the "Goin West Down" song is somewhat annoying...I dont like the whole backward playing tracks...the drums are like when the levee breaks and also the beginning guitar riff is from no quater by zeppelin...not sure I would rip riffs off like that...just my opinion...try and use your own riffs.

I like the singers voice though...rather here something more original though.

Free and In the Heat...i like the vocals on that track.

I did in fact intend to rip off Levee Breaks and No Quarter. Everything was intended -- to be long, to be ripped off. I even ripped some of the lyrics off of Robert Plant's "The Enchanter". I guess I should make it clear that Goin' West, Down was meant to be more of a lyrical journey and ballad than what people were expecting. Take it for what it's worth I guess.

pretty much agree with all thats been said in the previous post...I really dug the "Free And In The Heat" Hendrix type jam..kinda a diffrent spin oh Hear My Train A Comin'...great guitar and vocals imho!

Free and In the Heat - great grooves, love the dynamics throughout the piece. That pickin' is thick and meaty.....just the way I like it!

I hear some foghat in Free and in the Heat, too --

I kind of like the reused drum line and guitar riff in Goin' West, Down.

Maybe it's my monitors, but I can't really hear the vocals in either song -- back in the mix and lots of reverb. I *think* you have a good voice (I know I have a unique voice). What did you do for the guitars? Great sound and cool playing.

What foghat song does Free remind you of?

Guitars on Free and in the Heat... I used an Epi Les Paul going through a Line 6 for the lead on the left, and for the solo in the middle of the song. I used my friend's guitar (Don't even know what kind) running through a shitty crate half stack on the right channel. I basically got lucky that it didn't sound terrible.

Goin' West Down was just the Epi LP through the Line 6, and I ran it straight into my computer from the amp. The Accoustic was a Epiphone Skunk Baxter through one of my friend's nice condensors.

I don't know what to tell you about the vocals -- I can hear them fine. I did put reverb on the Vox track in Goin' West Down. Free and in the Heat, I was trying to get that PA sound that Hendrix has in alot of his songs, I don't know how well I did, but then I just added a small amount of reverb over the entire final track. It had too much stuff going on to put reverb on each track, that'd sound so messy.
