combines the output from two microphones into one channel. The balance control attenuates each microphone by 6 dB (typical) at midpoint.

Would like to use this instead of carrying a mixer to the field. Wanted to combine two drum mic's because I am working with limited channels on my deck. Any reason not to use a combiner?

shoudln't really be a problem, however I'd check how each unit handles phantom power, otherwise you may not be able to use phatom mics, unles you by a seperate phantom power unit for each mic...

It's just a matter of terminology. The "combiner" *is* a mixer. It's just a wussy little 2X1 mixer without very much gain. A small mixer would offer you much greater routing capabilities, be vastly more versatile, and not cost that much more, if any. The only reason to use a unit like that over a small mixer is if it *has* to be really, really, small.-Richie
