Hey I was wondering why there are 2 firewire ports on my firebox. If I run two firewire cables to my laptop from the firebox, will it improve the transfer speed?

DON'T do that! The second port is for daisy-chaining another Presonus interface for more i/o and possibly an external hard drive ONLY.

Read the manual for more info before you go plugging stuff in. I've heard of people frying their interfaces by plugging both into the computer.

Yes the second port is for daisy-chaining devices.
Firewire allows up to 63 devices on a chain.
You can get effects and convolution boxes like tcelectronic powercore, or focusrite liquidmix, or you can put on a hard drive. (I run a Glyph firewire drive on my chain with my Motu828mkII.)

Hooking both to your computer wont work. It's not built that way.

Ok... good thing I didn't! That powercore thing is pretty cool but expensive!

Wouldn't hurt anything. The FireWire standard handles loops in the connection graph just fine. It wouldn't improve things, though. And if a device fried because you connected two powered connectors from your computer, it would almost certainly fry if you plugged in almost any wall-powered hard drive in as well. In other words, that claim seems highly suspect.
