This is my first attempt at recording a piano.
Its a cover of the Australian band The Withlams

Please give your opinions
Thanks
Tukkis

I suck at being helpful. This is great...I think (read as MAYBE) the piano needs an EQ tweak somewhere (I don't know where) to take a tad of the lows out.

I've never heard of the Withlams...but I'm going to d-load some NOW. Opinions...cool song, I realize it's not yours, but taste counts for a lot. Great Vocal...

oh yeah...FUCK TUKKIS!!!! hehehehee Still 15? I'm jealous.

How did you record the piano?
Has a very "real" sound to it.

Sounds to me like it needs a little more hi end.
Very nice tone to it.

Nice playing BTW!

Best to you,
Pete

One more thing...I downloaded it and was listening with the HAPPY EQ...The low end might actually be a problem. I'm not sure, but I think maybe there is a problem in the 60-80Hz area.

Not to detract from my earlier thoughts...I just wanna' see if anybody else is getting this.

lots of low end and not much in the clarity dept. But the tune and the performance were E X C E L L E N T. I have no tips on recording piano. I use Gigasampler.
What kind of mic and pre on the vocals?

hey all,

Sorry for exposing you all to my piano "playing" .......
i was the "pianist" and vocalist in that song - recorded at tukkis' house.
By the way the band is "The Whitlams" . A great aussie band, they have many more good tunes especially on piano.

The vocal mic was a rode NT1000 (i'll let tukkis tell you how he used it - cos i dont really know). To tell you the truth the piano we used wasnt a very good one. The good thing is that the sound you hear is pretty much what is sounds like when you're standing next to it! even though i dont like the sound.

As for the EQ - any more tips would help tukkis heaps- cos he was searching for some tips for piano.

Thanks for listening guys

Thanks guys for the replies

I have adjusted the bass. It was a problem in the low bass area from about 100Hz down.

I think one of the problems that the song was a bit bass heavy was because I only used mic, Rode Nt1000. I took off the front cover of the piano and and put the mic at about 5-10 inches pointing at the center of the piano. Next time I will probably use two or even three mics to give me more control over the sound.

JR#97- I use a Rode NT1000 into my Behringer mixer.

Thanks Guys

jeesh!!!

tukkis...i still refuse to believe you are 15!!!!!!!!:D

tukkis...i still refuse to believe you are 15!!!!!!!!

fenderlikingood, what in my recordings makes you think that I'm not 15?

Tukkis

i think the piano needed to sound "brighter".

if you dont know what im talking about SHUT UP coz i dont know any other way to say it.

and yiordanaki, dont worry about it!!

in time your voice will drop and you wont sound so bad!

until then just get some piano lessons and maybe, only if your up to it, get a haircut.

now did i miss anything??????

oh yeah, i almost forgot......

SARCASM = 100%

dont cry im just joking

right on chris..I might be wrong tukkis., but I think you need to take off 125hz-250hz off your piano, to get rid of thaT "hammering" underneath the actual piano sound....

uhh nearly forgot...that sounds nice mate, but be careful..it sound a lot like one of the LIVE's songs ..can't think of the nam enow...no offence but I just thought it was very, very, very similar;) ;)
