I have used the 990's as overheads and they are ok... just ok. a huge fan of the mic, but they will work Ok. Just don't plan on singing threw them or recording accoustic guitar.

PS you have to have very stable stands (counter weghted) to use the 990 as a over head too. That is if you have to extend the boom very far.
