Hey my friend recorded some tunes from school on a Roland 2480 and I mixed 'em in cakewalk... there are two songs that are rough mixed on the site
( http://www.jimmychalk.com ) "Lifehouse's Everything" and "Wonderful Cross", these are our first live attempts, and I'd love to hear what suggestions y'all have on 'em, thanks alot, have a good one ~jim

Listening to Lifehouse's Everything. Sounds nice and warm. I would save the delay that you're using in the intro for later, like around 1:15 ish (second verse). Also the tempo of the delay needs to be adjusted to be more synchronized with the rest of the song.
I like the girl's touch in the second verse.
I'd examine that delay...I think it's really blowing your mix apart in the drum section. You've got the right idea with the dynamics, but the mix gets really crowded and swimmy there.
Anyway more tips will be along I'm sure. But nice job here man!

Good song. Good vocal. Makes me wish I could sing. Sluice is right about the delay. Need to adjust the delay speed to match the song tempo. And if you can kick it in with a foot switch ... just use it on the last word of the phrases. Kick out with new phrase... and in on last word ... etc.

I liked the part where the rest of the band came in . Good dynamics etc. Just a good youth praise and worship song. :)

yeah most of the time the delay isn't working out so well man.

when you say "you are the LIGHT"...

that part actually works really well...i'd actually kill the delay on most of the song...except for the little parts like that.

the girl sounds nice - how old is she? 16? - but the delay is kind of cutting into her frequencies in a big way...and then the stacked delays..ouch man.

so, trim that up and i'd say you've got a good thing on your hands minus some sloppy guitar playing.

Hey, good work! I like both of the guy and girls' voice alot. Besides the delay thinggie, I think the bass gets a little boomy here and there. Maybe you could try cutting some lows at those muffle spots. The guitar over powers the vox during the drumming part. I really dig this one, good job

Thanks for the comments, in response to almost everyone's delay comments, the problem here is, and maybe y'all can help me figure out a solution here, but the indiv. tracks for this project were given to me complete... that is about 40 minutes long per track (15 tracks) So, I loaded them each into the cakewalk project and began working on good tones and effects, etc. The only problem comes when I run into time-based effects like the delay on this song, because since I have OTHER songs on this project (i.e. wonderful cross, the other one on the site). This is a prob because I can't easily adjust the delay tempo because I have to mix the project down as a whole, every single song at the same time! Now it would be awesome if someone knew how to just take out a section of the project that you want to mix seperately while still keeping the effects and volume levels on the original project, and just fix little things like delay tempo, etc. on the NEW project. WELL hopefully I made some sense here, if not, I'll try to explain this again, but if anyone is familiar w/ the software I'm using (cakewalk HS 2002) that'd rock.

Now about the vocalists... the male vocal is my brother, he's a freshman, and the female is a senior. The band is all freshmen-seniors, and the tracking engineer is a junior, I'm a soph. Anyway, thanks for the comments and keep 'em coming, it's awesome to have y'all's expertise in the recording!! ~Jim

Good recording too much delay in some areas but it still works.Lousy cover.I hate Lifehouse ,they suck.Get off the wuss band kick and post some original music.I really like the chick in the backing vox.Her voice has been wasted on crap.I checked out some of the girls on that site you got and if you said you did it to get some of 'em, then I'd go easier on ya.Good performance.Nice mix...

There is a tempo change function under INSERT menu, or simply right-click on top of the tracks windown, where markers are placed, and you should find tempo change inserts there, too.

But, if I were you, I would spend sometime cutting those 40 min long tracks into seperate pieces, one peice per song, and work on one song at a time. Much less confusion. If you worry about syncin' prob, just set snap property to, say, half a measure, and cut where every insrtument ends in one song, that way, you will get the exact same length on every track, much easier to sync them.

Good luck
