I am looking at buying a 16 ohm 2x12 speaker cabinet. Can I hook this up to a head that has outputs for either 4 or 8 ohm jacks? Will there be any damage to either the amp or the 2x12?

Thanks,

Are you saying that each of the speakers is 16ohms or is the whole cabinet wired as a 16?

What is the ohm rating on the speakers?

I'm wondering if maybe there are 2 8ohm speakers wired in series...if so, you could rewire them in parallel to get a 4 ohm cabinet.

16 ohms

Apparently the cab is 16 ohm mono or 8 ohm stereo.

I wouldn't connect up in 16 ohms.

Look at the back side of the speakers they will (should be) marked. If the speakers are both 16 ohm speakers, connect them up in parallel you'll get 8 ohms.

if you want to wire 2 8 ohm speakers in parellel you get an output of 4 ohms. 2 16 ohm speakers in parellel gives you 8 ohms.

They are obviously 8 ohm speakers, he said that it was 16 ohms mono and 8 ohms stereo in a 2x12 cab.

If you rewire the cabinet, you can make it 4 ohms.
