$100 to spend.... what to get?

Buy a pair of Naiant MSH1 mic's. No high freq hype. Smooth transient response. That comes through as "warm" on most sources.

And with the extra $ get a single MSH4 tube mic.

After looking @ the OP's current mic list I'd have to 2nd the Naiant mics. I don't see any on there more suitable for acoustic instruments (among other things) than the Naiant mics.

I don't like the MXL 990's. And the AT2020 is better for vocals (sounds too dark on acoustic instruments in my opinion). I think a few Naiant mics would be a better investment than the headphones.

But even the headphones are better than cables unless you absolutely need them.

yep the hd-280s are about your best bet for 100 dollar headphones

I personally HATE the 990's. i find them as a joke of a mic. But the at2020s treat me VERY nice. I love the sound with acoustic guitars, cymbals, and vocals. But i probably should get another mic for acoustic. The only thing is I primarily record electric guitar (metal music) so I want to get something that will be more usefull now.

I have headphones that are perfectly fine, basically until I need 4 pairs at a time, I'm going to stick with the 3 i have lol.

I think in my situation i should either get a pre amp, more auralex, or the cables. Either way, I need to get all 3. I guess I just need to get the most important one first.

If there's somethin you don't really need right away there's no harm in saving it. You could even put it in an SSL console fund! haha

I'd get a couple absorber panels before more Auralex.

$100 won't go very far. What preamp are you using right now?

I'd get an MSH-1 mic and then whatever else you have money for.

i would give the $100 to you girl friend to go out shopping in return she would be so happy that she would not mind you spending alot of time in the studio.

$100 = no ear ache

aka : you prefer that studio to me!!
i'm second best to your studio...etc...ect...(all the married men are sat here saying yep i hear you)

well some peice for a while at least:D

If you need a preamp for overheads you could look at the DMP3. This is a little over $100 but is a very clean low noise preamp!
