Ok, well I have recently realized how crucial it is to not only hear my recordings through my headphones, but also through some other source (studio monitors!). so I need some studio monitors...

I am on a budget. So my goal is to hopefully spend between 100-200$, hopefully closer to 100$. Now I know most of you are already feeling the urge to reply and say "Are kidding me? 100$ will get you crap".

Does anybody have some 100$ monitors? if so, let me know!

ps. is it passive or active monitors that are powered by themselves?

Thanks! :D

I'm on a tight budget also. I bought a pair of Behri M20's three weeks ago. They were AUS$170 delivered.
The brand and model get a fair bit of flak but it's a step up from what I was using and the resultant mix I've done post purchase seems to be better & punchier.
Within my circumstances they'll do for the time being - however many years that'll be.
This particular model is powered (active).

(A) It's not crucial to use headphones. It usually does much more harm than good - Phase relationships, low end frequency response, etc., etc., etc. Headphones are nice for checking a mix - Not for mixing.

(B) Your monitors - and the proper acoustical treatment of the room they're in ('proper' treatment - not throwing foam all over the walls) are the most important and vital purchase you will make. There is nothing more crucial. Every single decision you make sonically, will be based on how well your monitoring chain translates to your brain. Every single core sound, every .25dB EQ adjustment, every dB of gain reduction on every individual track, every aux send - everything. You will only ever hear as well as your monitors allow you to hear and your monitors will only ever sound as good as the room allows them to sound.

I'd highly suggest saving up to get something a little more reasonable.

(A) (Sound of person gagging, as if disgusted for some reason).

(B) Twice his price range.

(EDIT)

Okay, on the upper-end of his potential price range. Still, secondary units at best - and not very nice sounding ones for that matter. Even as "the little, crappy speakers," I'd want a better sounding box.

ok, so I've realized that that getting a 100$ pair of monitors is just a waste of money. So now I'm focusing on a 200$ pair...such as the rp5's maybe?

any other good pairs for 200?

I had a pair of Event TR5's for a while. They were quite good for small monitors.

Check e-bay, cuz you might have a hard time finding them.
