is that small one they have advertised at guitar center any good?

i kinda want a practice amp.

suggestions?

If you're referring to the Vox Pathfinder 15, they're astoundingly good for what you pay for them. They have a very nice clean sound, and you can dial in a nice bluesy grit if you need it.

If you're looking for something that has a high-gain metal sound though, this isn't the amp you want.

I can't comment on the reverb, since I've got the (discontinued) version without reverb.

Yeah, I've always been a big fan of the Vox small amps. Sometimes they're a bit pricy for beginners, but they're worth every penny.

my guitar player is upgrading from the pathfinder to a fender blues junior all tube amp for $400. were looking for a close to SRV sound do you think this is a good choice?

I worked the stage for a SRV show back in the day, and I got to stand 10 feet from him (with the monitor guy) during the show. Wow, whatta guitar monster he was.

That time, he was playing through a couple of small natural wood combo amps that had a brand name that I recognized (and can't remember now) but didn't normally think of as a guitar amp company, like TEAC or Jensen or something weird like that. Google so far has not come up with anything.

I don't know which one you mean. They're selling the Pathfinder 10 in this month's sale catalogue for $69.99, but I have no idea how good an amp this is.

I do know that the Pathfinder 15/R is pretty highly regarded, but it's usually more than a hundred bucks.

I got mine for $90 new at Guitar Center a year and a half ago. It's an awesome amp. The spring reverb is the real deal. This tiny solid state chimes.

really that is so cool .... was the show in austin texas?

I had a cambridge 15w w/ tube in the pre and liked it a lot ... it seemed better than comparable practise amps ... but dont expect too much (those har.cental review are really VERY hyped) ... its an 8" speaker

Yeah. It was a Roadstar show in Fiesta Gardens, in about 1984 or thereabouts.

thats awesome i dont even care anymore about what amp he used i just wanna know more about this show :D

I have the Pathfinder...it's a seriously cool little amp. You can get good clean, crunch, reverb, and tremolo sounds out of it.

Just the fact that it has a good tremolo on it makes it worth it to me. Most trem pedals are going to run you between $50-$100, why not spend approximately $100 and get a different flavored amp to boot.

I find it very handy for recording.

would it be a good amp for home or college to play at the wee hours of the morning

and what about valvetronix?

What's the noise floor like on it?

That's sort of a make or break for me with inexpensive amps.

MSRP is $175, so that's a long sale price, but their "everyday" price for the R version with reverb is around $125, which explains my original comment.

Some hambone on eBay has a used one for $150 BIN +$25 shipping!

What's to say? I was standing close enough to him to see the whites of his eyes and every move of his hands. It was just him and Double Trouble (bass and drums), and he tore the place apart; I just stood there agape and watched him work. It was a peak experience for me.
