1.5 hour head-cold....

I really enjoyed this one man. I like your voice.

If I can be critical, if you didn't like the guitar solo, why not just leave it out? It took away from the song.

yeah... I prolly shoulda just left it oat entirely. I wasn't exactly "all there" when I was recording that, though, so I didn't make all the right calls on this one. :p

well... for this tune (and for the Christmas tune) I used doubling for all the guitar tracks.

I record using an MC012 at the 12th fret aboot 6 inches away from the neck, and then I use a C-1 placed aboat 2-3 feet out in front of the guitar for a little "roominess". Then I usually hard pan each mic in opposite directions to give it that "full" sound.




oh yeah... I guess I should explain my brother's little inside jokes. (so you don't think he's a jerk or anything. :p ) He likes to tease me aboot the fact that all my songs sound like Del Amitri tunes. :p and this particular tune has a rather obvious "Del" influence... in fact,.. if you listen to "Tell Her This" (a Del cover I did) and then immediately listen to "Roll", you will hear some pretty freaking blatant similarities in chord structure and strumming paterns... (oops... :D) but I wrote Roll mostly on a silly whim, so I wasn't too concerned aboot the musical originality of it, at the time. :p :cool: On top of that... I think that his taste in music is extremely weird. :p so he always likes to suggest really bizzare things that I should do to my music, just to tick me off.. :p


as you can see... we have a very loving relationship.... :D

Cool! I don't really hang here too often, so I don't know who your brother is.

I'll have to try those mics (I have them both) and see how it works for me. I usually just use the MC012 about a foot away from the 12 fret.

I always hear peoples influence come out in the songs they play on. I know most people hear my influences in my playing.

Anyway, nice stuff. :)
 
well that's cool... so if you listened to all the songs, then for your own reference I can tell you that "Tell Her" was recorded the same way you do it.. (just one MC12 at 12th fret) but it was run through a crappy pre. "Better" was done the same way (MC12) but through a better pre and then "Oh Holy Night" and "Roll" were done through my digi001 pres and with the double mic thing... so you can kinda hear the improvement that you get when you start using two mics. The gits in Tell Her aren't horrible or anything.. but you can really hear the clarity that comes out when you start using two mics (and better pres, of course) :p

Mate. I am gobsmacked for three reasons.

Firstly, 1.5. Great just great. A solid song that sounds perfect. Live and real. Love it.

Secondly. Amazing sound. the quality is outstanding and I have said this before. You and the guitar both sound like your sitting here in this little room with me. My hair stands up bro.

Thirdly. I actually downloaded a song and can listen perfectly on this computer.....lol

I have a big problem perhaps you can help fix. Get back to you ASAP

man, this sounds very good to me. guitars sound fantastic!

i can hear the del amtri influence but that's a good thing.
