How to get rid of over powering "S" sounds?

I recorded some vocals, and every word with an S sounds like an annoying whistle in my ear. Is there a way to soften the noise? Thanks, ajmaburn ps. I am using logic

    Problems with Audacity?

I used a direct in mic and never had that problem, so if there are any in your school (which there should be) those might just be easier, but not as good, but I doubt you need studio quality sound

And here it is, well some of it anyway

I think some snare rolls on "bad guy" would be cool

    Live Recording

Not too crazy about the toms. I like the cohesion between the vocals and axe though

    recoding screaming vocals

Literally, the same thing happened with my best friend's old band. The producer (Geoff Rockwell) told the screamer to go watch the Zen of Screaming. I don't know if it will help, but it can't hurt to watch. Their website- myspace.com/sagesandsaints

    Rough Draft - Metal

Better, but maybe turned down a little?

    Rough Draft - Metal

Just more of a full boom, versus a dry click, just me though.

    Rough Draft - Metal

Yeah that version is better. I agree with Greg ^, the kick is a little to dry and doesn't sound rounded and full if that makes sense. It's hard for me to see what can be sung to that so I am excited to see how you manage to do it! ajmauburn

    Rough Draft - Metal

Dude, it sounds a lot better! I know I commented on the snare earlier, and whether you changed it or not, it sounds better. Even if you didn't change it, it seems like the music works with it, so nice improvement.

    Yep, screaming.

All still disagree with you on the music part, but on the other hand I agree with you about the mediocre equipment. But I don't think you know how mediocre mine is. -1 MXL 990 mic -1 MXL 991 mic -M Audio Audio Buddy Pre -Logic Express -Line 6 Spider 2 (old but it's all I can put in a dorm) So...

    Yep, screaming.

Thanks man. I agree with you about the kick, it comes of as deflated and not punchy or full. Thank for the words, ajmauburn

    Yep, screaming.

I certainly am not trying to pass them off as real. I don't have the resources for it so please pardon my use of what I've got. I completely disagree with you on the point of the genre becoming cliche, obviously you haven't listened to a lot. Be practical dude, I live in a dorm room and have...

    Yep, screaming.

Yep. I record 4 tracks of guitars. Divided into 2 I pan one pair left and the other right with varying depths of pan. For bass...well I don't have one, so I try my best to manipulate my guitar sound with some bass amp effects on logic. I'd prefer not to use an electronic instrument for it...

    Yep, screaming.

I don't know how often a hardcore song floats its way on here, but this is a song I haven't completed because I am not sure what to do about vox at the end. Everything is done my me: -guitars -bass -drums -sings/screams Thoughts? http://www.box.net/shared/io44hc3aym (please listen to the...

    Opinions on original metal song?

Good to hear something on my side of the spectrum! Though I'm not a metal/thrash fan, I like: -the structure -the drums -the harmonies I think you can improve: -guitar tones (I think some treble would make them sound better) -bass (I can't detect any) -the last lead sounds a weee bit dirty...

Ear Against the Wall (a quickie composition)

Though it is not my style at all, I can respect it. You've got a good guitar sound, and the drums seem natural. My only beef is the noise of you forming a word lol. Maybe a noise gate would do the trick? I like the soft vocals too, the song doesn't need a full voice. Maybe some harmonies to...

Listen to my new song testing out my new equipment!

Agreed, there's like no real melody occurring, and there's hardly a structure. Try something simple, like a really easy G to D progression with a simple lead over it to get a test run.

    Rough Draft - Metal

I would change the snare. The sound makes it come off as though it wasn't well recorded. No offense to you, but I think if you could fix that, it would sound a lot better.

    Based On A True Story

Thanks Matt, I appreciate it. I can understand the drum change, the repetitive beat might get make the listener to complacent. And I can see the video game thing with the evolving guitars in the beginning haha. Thanks again! Andy

    MIDI vs Direct In?

Right now I have a little M-Audio Audio buddy that is just a line-in to the mic port on my mac. I was wondering if a midi pre would be better when I upgrade soon. Or would getting an interface instead be better? Maybe this should be in the newbie category :b. I am kind of ignorant to all this...
