Hey man,
To me it sounds pretty good, the gtrs especially. As far as the mix, I'm pretty new, but the drums may need to be louder in parts, or the gtrs lowered. Don't take anything I say to heart cause I'm still learning. Pretty cool tone on those gtrs!!! Do you have any lyrics worked up for this? Very impressive sounds!!!

Thanks for the compliments. I was wondering myself if I should bring up the drums more in the mix. Makes me feel better that you complimented the guitar tone because I have been worrying about the guitar sound for days. Don't have lyrics yet. I usually complete all the music first and then do lyrics and vocals last.

I would change the snare. The sound makes it come off as though it wasn't well recorded. No offense to you, but I think if you could fix that, it would sound a lot better.

too much distortion in the gtrs i'd say. unless you like the constant static fuzz sound. well played stuff though. i also think the drums are a bit drowned out, because you were probably too focused on the guitars. but it's potentially good stuff. post it back when you get some singing in there.

definitely an improvement! it sounds awesome. as a guitar player myself i tend to get over-excited on guitars also, so i understand that issue.

i would still like to hear the guitars eq'd a little better. the "hiss" in the upper frequencies tires my ears out after awhile. i'd love to hear a thicker snare too, maybe a partial replacement with a good sample? just a thought, worth experimenting with.

Great steamroller sound, man!
Bass sounds beautifully ominous, how did you record it? Snare actually has a nice dry sound, but it's not very present. Maybe some compression and EQ might bring it more forward. The guitar tone is beautiful. Can't wait to hear this with vocals. I wouldn't fade it out though, I'd let it explode in the end. (hate fade-outs in metal...:D) Well done!

Thanx again for your comments. It really helps to have the ears and input of others. I still haven't found that sweet spot in the guitars between a good high end sizzle and harsh static. Still messing with eq there. My monitors (which really aren't monitors at all) make it really hard to hone the sound. The bass is actually an instrument I made with a tracker. Its a mix of a standard cheap bass I have and a synthetic bass mixed in. The original bass sound is receiving all the treatments a standard metal bass would get. Then the synth bass is mirroring that 1 octave lower. They are mixed pretty much 80/20 and compressed together to make a nice smear. My little cheapo bass just didn't have balls enough plus it really helps the bass lock in with the drums. The computer is a much better bassist then I am. :)
That snare......damn......I like it....but I don't all the same. I am still diddling with that one. I'll poke around more and put up another sample soon. Thanks for the comments again.

Sounds great! The sound, especially the drums, reminds me of 'my own prison' era Creed.

Dude, it sounds a lot better! I know I commented on the snare earlier, and whether you changed it or not, it sounds better. Even if you didn't change it, it seems like the music works with it, so nice improvement.

If the one you heard was from that post then check out http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/file.php?id=17876 Much better IMO.

Wow that's pretty good. Guitars sound fantastic. Bass is growly and mean.

I'm not crazy about the kick and snare, but they work. I'd personally like a little more punch to the kick. The attack is plenty there, but it could use just a little more meat behind it. Go easy though if you try it because you have pretty good kick/bass seperation and you don't wanna muddy it up. The snare sounds a little boxy to me. I think maybe a very gentle scoop from the low mids (300-500) might tighten it up some.

Good job overall.

Yeah that version is better. I agree with Greg ^, the kick is a little to dry and doesn't sound rounded and full if that makes sense.

It's hard for me to see what can be sung to that so I am excited to see how you manage to do it!

Awesome man, great job on the mix, and the song is very ominous and foreboding. The guitars sound just a little thin IMO, but that could definitely go away once you add in vocals, because everything will sit better.

Just more of a full boom, versus a dry click, just me though.

Ahh...I get exactly what you mean now. put a little more of that kick in the room and boom. Nice and punchy with a nice bottom but not overbearing. Thanx.
