connecting an amp directly to a mixer

I'm having a similar problem. I know I should be miking my amp, but I have certain constraints which prevent me from being able to do so, so I run my pedals directly into the mixer. I'm noticing that my tone is overly bright. I've tried different combinations of guitars, pedals and digital...

    Onward Motion (Solitary Journey)

I started writing this song about 10 years ago, shortly after I started taking guitar lessons. It's been through several revisions, but I finally have something I'm satisfied with so I don't think I'll be changing it again in the future. I recorded the drum track, and guitar rhythm tracks...

post the way YOU record/mix strings

I usually just take the output directly from the guitar into my distortion pedal, then into my compressor/sustainer into the guitar input and record the track. If I'm not using distortion, I don't hook up the distortion pedal. I don't have a mic preamp, so I don't really have the proper gear...

Fostex MR-8 mkII 8-Track Digital Recorder mixer hookup?

I've never hooked my Fostex up to my computer through the USB, so I'm not sure about that, but I would think that if he got a mixer with XLR or 1/4" outputs he could probably do that. But don't quote me on it, I've never tried it.

When can one call themselves a guitar player?

I tend to agree with this. Personally, I call anyone who plays guitar a guitar player. Someone who gets paid to play guitar (gigs, in a band, etc.) is a guitarist.

i just scored a free axe.

Smashing POS guitars is fun. I don't care who you are. That said, I would never smash someone else's instrument, no matter what condition it was in.

    scratching on acoustic

I know I'm probably in the minority, but I love the sound of fingers gliding along the strings on an acoustic guitar while playing an arpeggio. I also seem to have that problem playing acoustic. I think I'll try some flatwounds to see if it helps.

    Acoustic Guitar Pickup

I have several microphones, and I use a Fostex MR-8 to record. I usually run my 12-string electric/acoustic through my Boss compression/sustainer. I did the same with my Ovation, which is, sadly, out of commission at the moment, which is only part of the reason I want to be able to record with...

    Acoustic Guitar Pickup

I bought a Rogue acoustic guitar and would like to get a decent pick-up for it to use in my recording. Preferrably one that can be inserted and removed easily without having to drill holes in the guitar body. Are any of the sound-hole pickups any good, or would it just be better to mic the guitar?
