Yes i had the mix coming out of buss 1 and 2. Are the main L and R outs of this mixer the stereo out XLR jacks? My mixdown deck is RCA ins (Tascam 22-2)

These were as recent as December 2010 (purchase) from what I recall. Do you think it will make a difference to get newer tape?

Could it really be a bias issue? Any other opinions? I thought i read here that SM468 and 456 tapes were a close match. Never had this issues on other decks.

Yes I used the 456 again and no problems, also the machine is degaussed and heads cleaned regularly...

I got a couple reels of 1/2" SM468 from Fullcompass, to use with my Tascam MSR16... Whenever I record or punch in/out you can clearly hear slight "pops" in the tape upon playback, wherever I had hit record and stop. -I'm not having this issue with Quantegy 456 tape which I was using until...

Yes, that idea works much better...guess I'll just use the Tascam as a sub.

The Mackie is labeled as a 16 track mixer, but it really on has 8-10 (at best) proper mono channels, I need at least 6 more.

The studiomaster might be a bit too much mixer for me/my space.

Recently I picked up a Tascam MSR16, and upgraded from an 8 track. Now I need a new mixer (or a 2nd smaller mixer?) to handle more mono tracks from the MSR16. What I have is a Mackie 1642VLZ pro, and I actually do like it a lot for its routing capabilities and phantom power, direct outs etc...

Yes use isopropyl alcohol and demagnetize the heads as well.

Clean the heads and demagnetize the entire tape path, then try recording again see if audio is stronger on playback. To do this you need: Isopropyl 91% alcohol, swab, and Han D Mag demagnetizer.

Yes. Have you tried other tracks? Not that familiar with the 38 but is there a source/tape button for monitoring? Click those if so on playback to "tape".
