Hi
I am running an old Korg keyboard through a MIDI/USB interface into Logic Pro 6, trying to use the keyboard to play the MIDI instruments. I know nothing about MIDI. Everything seems to be working; the lights on the interface show data is flowing through it, and the numbers in the...
So my band finally made enough money from playing shows to go out and buy a PA so we don't have to run our vocals through a guitar amp any more. We got a decent enough PA with a bunch of channels, phantom power, EQ, tone knobs for each channel, pad, etc. We only got one speaker because our space...
I'm looking for a small but versatile guitar amp, maybe 60 watts or less (though my knowledge of these kinds of specific technical details is pretty minimal, so if I'm over/underestimating my needs, please correct me). Ideally, I'd like something that I would be able to use at a reasonable...
Hi. I realize this all has probably been covered in the past, so if you'd prefer to link me to old threads to answer my questions, I'm ok with that.
1. My girlfriend and I are going to buy a laptop because our old computer is falling apart. As far as music goes, I use our current computer...

This is a famous article by David Fair, the original guitarist of Half Japanese, a kind of primitive rock band from the mid-70's to the present. They were the subject of the documentary "The Band that Could be King." Please respond.
How to play Guitar
by David Fair [of Half Japanese]
I taught...
I understand how guitar strings go out of tune when they go flat, but my G string consistently goes sharp, like after every song essentially. How does this even happen? What can I do about it?
This is kind of a weird question....
I've been playing around with bowed guitar, and I like the way it sounds, but since the strings are all at the same height from the body, you can't play the middle 4 strings individually. That is, you can play the high or low E strings individually by angling...
Hi
I play through an Ampeg V-4 head that I got a few months ago. Last night, I finally got around to looking at the BACK of the head. Well, first thing I noticed was that there's an outlet on the back that I can plug the AC adaptor for my pedals into! Holy shit!
But also there's a jack for a...
OK, so I'm buying a cheap, old mixer today, and I'm using it to record drums for my band on Sunday. I have little to no mixer experience. Is there a basic on-line tutorial that anyone could suggest? Mainly I just need to know what the abbreviations on the buttons mean, since this is a used...
OK I've been writing and recording music for about 10 years, but more rock type stuff. I like hip-hop and other beat-based music (sounds stupid) but haven't really tried to write any. So I have a question: if a producer is making a track for someone to rap over, do they pretty much put together...
Hi
My friend got me a Behringer PowerPlay Pro for my birthday, which is cool, but I'm not sure exactly what it's for. The box says it's a headphone amplifier system, and the way my friend explained it is that it's for when you want to use more than one set of headphones (like if four people were...
Ok, there's a used Roland Jazz Chorus amp for sale at Mars for $400. It seems to be in perfect condition and sounds great to me. Is this a decent price for this amp? (I know Mars has a tendency to overprice). Any overall opinions on the quality of this amp?
I'm helping my girlfriend's band put together a promotional packet, mainly to get shows in and around town, also maybe to send to a few labels. Can anyone recommend a website with tips and particulars on putting together these packets? I have a very general idea of what we need, but specifics...
Hi
There are 2 new songs up on my web page:
www.geocities.com/naamme
Both are instrumental, kind of electronic-music influenced, but not overtly electronic in nature. Due to the stupidity of geocities and my cheapness in web service providers, only a limited number of people can download the...
Hi
I recorded a demo for my friends' band, which I then mixed into CoolEdit. I've mixed them a couple of times, and most of the songs I'm happy with the sound of, but there are a couple with still have too much bass, not enough guitar, etc., etc. Is there a simple feature where CoolEdit can look...
What would be the ideal kind of room mic to use in this situation, just to pick up a little atmosphere in the recording? It would be a pretty loud rock band, bass/guitar/drums. The space is pretty small, with plywood walls and a concrete floor. Lots of reflections, very loud space.
Hi
Are these cheap-ass mics worth the trouble?
1. Two used Realistic PZM mics for sale at local guitar store for $125
2. Used Sony Electet condenser mic for $60 (in case, looks like great physical condition, etc., etc)
These would both be for home bedroom recording, nothing serious, nothing fancy.
Ok.
I have a Tascam 488, which is an 8-track that records to cassette tapes. My question: is it possible to take a tape that I have used to record on my 8 track and make a copy of it so that the tracks are still seperate on the copy (the difficulty being that the 8track records at twice the...
