Is there anything to stop me from bolting a Squier Strat neck - or another cheap replacement neck - onto an Ibanez RG120? (Besides the obvious bad taste.)
My brother just smashed his old RG120 at a gig, and left me its body and shattered neck. I was wondering if I could combine the body from...
I just bought one of these puppies (a Presonus Inspire 1394), and wanted to hear your thoughts on them before I open the box. Good buy or not?
I was looking for an inexpensive new interface, but it seems like PCI is a bad investment at the moment because the cards will be phased out, and USB...
Right now I'm using the USB connection, because the soundcard's line ins are trash (I have a useless Creative Audigy 2 ZS).
Any soundcard / USB / firewire interface you'd recommend, for the same price?
Here's my dilemma -
I use a POD and Cubase simultaneously, but the POD (running direct) cannot be monitored via my soundcard output, and running a separate set of speakers out of the POD makes it impossible to predict how the POD will sound once tracked on my PC.
As far as I can tell, the only...
Okay - I'd guess this may be the stupidest thing anyone's ever said in the history of recording, but:
Right now I'm poor ($120k of law school tuition debt) and can't afford monitors... but I'm sick of mixing with headphones and everything I track sounds like crap. Now, I know you can run a...
I can't decide between two "budget" laptops to use as a new workstation.... Which would you pick? (These prices are after a teacher discount.)
Toshiba Satellite A75-S231 $1350
Mobile Pentium 4 548 (3.33GHz 1MB L2 cache, 533MHz FSB)
512MB PC2700 DDR333 SDRAM
100GB HDD (4200rpm)

Question for you -
How is the Cubase M14 package? It comes with Cubase SL and the M14, a 4-in 24/96 USB interface. Guitar Center's been really recommending this one to me, but if you check the Musician's Friend reviews, they're horrendous. Virtually everyone complains about the preamps being...
Ughh... I'm really hoping to avoid Behringer. I bought a direct box from them once, and basically all the blasted thing did was add noise.
I thought the POD XT and the Guitar port were different myself... why the big price difference?
Question for ya:
I'm a law student, living in an apartment, so right now my options for recording guitar are gonna be crummy for the next 3 years or so. I can't use a stack anymore (without soundproofing the whole apartment, which is prohibitively expensive), so I'm thinking about picking up...
Hmm... I can't for the life of me find out what's actually in the Cubase SE package. Looks like you lose the unlimited undo (only 1 undo = ouch), and the interface is a bit different, but what else is there?
Does anyone know what VST effects/plugins SE comes with? Are they "trial" versions or...
Well, I'm a bit of a newbie myself, but I went with a digital multitracker based studio and haven't regretted it yet. It gives you a lot more freedom in some ways. I can simply carry my multitracker to wherever I want to record, rather than having to lug my desktop PC off to this place and...
Hey guys, a super-newbie question for ya:
I'm looking to expand my home studio with a couple more cheap dynamic mics, but I'm not sure which to get. I want something to use primarily for micing instrument cabs/combos, but want something versatile enough to work for vocals in a pinch (if...
Subtractive EQing helped a bit... as well as simply using less drastic boosts/cuts across the board (there's no need to EQ lows/highs into oblivion if you can just slap on a HPF/LPF). I've been making more of my guitar/bass EQing on my head/amps rather than relying so heavily on my software...
Ok, I'm pretty new into this computer recording stuff and just using VST plugins through Audacity for my basic mixing/editing needs. The problem is, my mixes have all been sounding like crap and I think I just isolated the problem.
For some inexplicable reason, my EQ seems to be adding NOISE...
Errr... if I said "preamp out" I misspoke (wasn't aware there even was such a thing). It's just a 1/4" power amp out... for driving a cab. The Behringer basically can pad the signal all the way down to mic level... which is good I guess if your amp doesn't have a line out.
What about using the Line Out versus the Preamp Out from the head? The Behringer DI Box will accept an external speaker signal... I don't know whether that'd work better than line out (or heck, even if it'd accept line level... but I can't see why not).
Well, until my DI box comes in the mail, I need a way to record my guitar. And by record, I mean record direct... as cheaply as possible. :rolleyes:
Ok, so here's my newest idea (tell me whether it's horrible or not)...
Guitar --> Randall RH100 Head --> Line out from RH100 --> DAW...
Ok so how 'bout this instead...
First, ditch the amp because there's no way to use it in a signal chain without a mic safely.
Second, run the signal...
Guitar --> Distortion Pedal --> Behringer GI100 --> DAW
I could substitute the X V-AMP Floor Preamp/Effects Unit...
