I am ready to upgrade my computer for audio recording to a new P4 2.6G possibly with 512 RAM and an ASUS P4P800 deluxe board, 40gig and 120gig HD's, and the Echo Mia soundcard. I've been reading that a good case, fans, and esp. powersupply are important. Any advice as to which case/fans/ps to...

manning. Can you direct me to where to get one of those AMD computers? Sounds...
How does this set-up look for recording? I have an Echo Mia soundcard and another 120GB HD I can use.

trogdor, thanks for the links. Any suggestions on what to get for recording with CEP? I already have an Echo Mia soundcard. Budget is in the $600-$700 range. Thanks.
I see some people on this board build their own computers dedicated to recording. Are their any reasonably priced builders offering say a Pent.4, 2.5Ghz, 1 Gb RAM w/ 2drives? Seems like Dell and other major co.'s are relatively expensive and make you pay for stuff you don't need like cheap...
frederic, yeah I could do that but was hoping to avoid ripping out and replacing sheetrock. Think I'll try to rubber mount top and bottom (outside in the block and above in the attic) first to see if that does the trick. As for interior sound deadening, what is the best materialto put on the...
c7sus, the sound is like a fluctuating pumping sound, probably the refridgerant like you said. The lines come in through a block wall and run up a perpendicular interior wall.
Rod, you are probably right, the lines do enter through the block wall and may even be secured inside that interior 2x4...
Can anyone tell me what the best wall covering material is for quieting AC condenser lines that are run through one of my interior walls? I attached 1"x2" fir strips and 3/4" styrofoam panels between them on this wall and then 1/2" sheetrock over that but still get noise when the AC is on. I...
Harvey, first, thanks for the 2 sets of phones and ext. cable you sent. I compared them (unfairly) to my Grado SR125's. Well, you know the result. But for the money these are great and I plan on using them alot here at home. Definately better sound and isolation that the Technics I have.
I...
Thanks for the links and info. guys.
Mark, yes I only have one DMP3 at this time. Also the Echo Mia card only has 2 inputs.
Think I'll try the MXL603 at the 12th fret and either the SM57 or the 67V at the bridge.
I now have an SM57, MXL603s, MXL67V and a Ross dynamic for mics. Any recommendations for a starting point for set-up of these for recording acoustic guitar and mandolin and vocals would be appreciated. That is, distance from instuments, placement, etc. I will be using a DMP3 preamp running...
Check out this site for a better alternative to the short lived silica packets. I use these here in Florida (humidity city) in conjuction with a hygometer for my acoustic guitars. One would probably do for a mic cabinet. : http://www.zorb-it.com/
I was looking at the specs on these 2 mics and they appear to be almost identical. I'm looking for a vocal/instrument mic in this price point (<$100) and would like to get opinions about these two.
I already have a MXL603 and an SM57 and am trying to decide which large condenser to get. Thanks...
acorec:
Only wire one end (the end that plugs into the mic pre-amp) for mic cables. Don't wire the braid to the mic end of the cable.
Will this connection still be balanced?
I have 75 ft. of the Canare cable on the way with 1/4"TRS jacks and M/F XLR jacks for balanced cables and mic cables...
I saw the recent post about making quality mic cables from the Canare star cable and xlr connectors. I would like to build similar cables with 1/4" TRS jacks for balanced cables between a DMP3 pre. and an Echo Mia soundcard. Does anyone know which wires connect where on the Neutrik 1/4" TRS...
