Me and my acoustic guitar try it again

I am on a lifelong quest to be make a great recording of just acoustic guitar and voice. Unfortunately this guitar recording turned out pretty noisy (guess the floorboards are getting old) but I liked the performance so here it is! All advice welcome as always! EDIT: this is now the updated...

New track - your thoughts on reverb, please!

I put up a new track: https://soundcloud.com/jamessolstice/a-weeks-holiday I worked hard on trying to get the reverb just right on this one. A nice flattering sound without being too much. That said, I sometimes think I have no idea what I'm doing so help me out! I used Aether, a Hall...

Getting that "stringy" strummed acoustic guitar sound

I am struggling to get that strummed acoustic sound where you hear lots of strings, and contact with the pick, but the basic guitar the is somewhat muted. Anyone have suggestions? I am assuming it is mostly eq but I can't get it right. Examples: Fleet foxes (they use it a lot): sun it rises...

Getting the vocals and acoustic guitar to gel together

Some feedback on recent tracks I have posted suggests that I am having trouble getting my acoustic guitar and (male) vocal to sit together well. I suppose they don't necessarily sound like they are in the same space. Can anyone suggest ways to work on this? I considered adding a bit of...

Acoustic guitar / voice / harmonica track - your advice welcome!

I got lots of great advice on my last track. I was hoping for anyone's thoughts on this new one: Come to the Lake by JamesSolstice on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free I was going for an early Bob Dylan sound. I actually used a touch of fingerprint EQ on the guitar...

Dear Mr President - Wake Up! My first track

I have been away from recording for a bit...recently inspired to start again. Anyway, this is the first track I have had the courage to post, so I welcome your suggestions. It's topical, so there is a YouTube video too, if you are interested. Song: Dear Mr President (Wake Up!) by...

    recording singer-songwriter

I am trying to record acoustic guitar and vocals from the same performer. I have a Rode NT1-A for the vocals and a Audio Technica AT3032 (omni) for the guitar. The problem is excessively bleed of one "instrument" into the other's mics. I am unsure if there are phase problems too. Any...

    powercore vs uad1 (again)

I'm lusting after one of these packages but I still can't decide which. I have read reviews where people seem to state that the powercore reverbs are better whereas the uad1 compressors are better. My questions is with regard to DSP power. I can't help but noticing that both these systems are...

small diaphragm condensor for acoustic guitar

I currently record vocals and acoustic guitar with a Rode NT1-A, which I really like. However. I would like to get a second mic so I can record the vocals and acoustic guitar together, instead of in two separate takes. Most of what I read recommends a small diaphragm condensor for this sort of...

CPU efficiency: Sonar 5 better or worse?

I have noticed from other posts that some people find Sonar 5 to be more CPU efficient that Sonar 4. Other people find the opposite. I find Sonar 5 to be slower and use more CPU, although I like it in other respects! What do you think?

    rewire problems in Sonar 5

Hey gang, I have been having a bit of problems with Reason since I upgraded to Sonar 5. It always worked perfectly before. Basically when I open a project in Sonar that has Reason Rewired in, Reason tries to open but then freezes up. (Sometimes it does open, but incredibly slowly). I have...

    rock and roll vocals

My current setup is Rode NT-1A --> M Audio DMP3 --> FMR Audio Really Nice Compressor --> M Audio Audiophile 2496 soundcard. I find I get really clean and present vocal recordings, which is generally good! However, for some tracks I want to get more of a gritty rock and roll sound. I am...

    VST Adapter 4.5.1 Problem

I thought I would communicate the solution to a recent problem I had. I alluded to this on another thread (which I now can't find). I couldn't install new VST plug-ins. The adapter seemed to be working fine, but the plug-ins just weren't there in Sonar. At first I thought it was just Guitar...

Routing a MIDI track to multiple soft synths

Hey gang, I am sure I read somewhere that Sonar 5 can route a MIDI track to multiple synths. However, now I can't remember how this is done. Is there are way, or am I just mixed up?

    Happy Holidays you crazy Sonerds

Anyone else live in a northern clime? We had about a foot and a half of snow in Montreal. I had to walk down the street wiping off licence plates to find my car--they were all totally buried. Just part of the holiday fun!

Multiple bit depths in sonar 5

Chapter 20 in the manual does a pretty good job of explaining this issue, but I still have some questions. It seems that Sonar can now support multiple bit depths in a project. Before, it was simple--you chose the bit depth and sample rate for your audio files before you started recording, and...

    recording your own precussion loops

I'm fed up with MIDI drums, but I can't play the drums. What I can play is my fingers, on the table-top. You know, dum-da-da-dum-dum-dum, kind of thing. I wanted a rhythm to match a particular progression on guitar, so I just recorded myself drumming it on the desk. The idea is to turn this...
