hooking up otari mx5050 mkiii with tascam m520

Wow that's a mighty complicated subject! thanks for all the information sweetbeats. i think i understand must of it but my knowledge of electricity is pretty lacking so i temd to go with the "if it ain't broken don't fix it" mantra. I might do it just for the safety reasons you have mentioned...

hooking up otari mx5050 mkiii with tascam m520

All that goes out from the mixer is 2 conductors electricity cable. Not sure tho if the grounding should be connected to the circuit grounding of the power supply PCB? Or connecting grounding to the chassis would have same results?

hooking up otari mx5050 mkiii with tascam m520

so at the tascam side - cable sleeve to ground, conductor 2 also to ground ,conductor 1 to signal. at the otari side - sleeve to ground, conductor 2 not connected , conductor 1 to pin 3. that's what you mean? btw and i guess it had to do something with what you are saying - my tascam has no...

hooking up otari mx5050 mkiii with tascam m520

Thanks Sweetbeats for your informal reply! Regarding the actual cabling - i have a bunch of quality RCA's, XLR's and VAN DAMME wiring 2-conductor cable, so as far as the materials required i have it all. i am more concerned about the right level-matching etc. man, the 1980'! you had to know...

Getting into the reds on my Tascam M512..to satisfy the hybrid setup

Hey guys I am running a hybrid setup here, the M512 into Tascam 238 and A&H ICE16D to DAW. Gain matching between the 512 and 238 is pretty smooth and well. But if i would record the same signal to DAW i would end up with a fairly week signal. So i find my self cranking up the gain on the input...

Problem with the Tascam porta02 - buzz issue

Yup, i also noticed that the right channel (or, the channel not being used for recording) is more buzzy, but it is also noticeable on the left channel. it does not show up without any signal connected . but it's buzzing either way - via the mixer or simply mic into porta02. it seems to be more...

Problem with the Tascam porta02 - buzz issue

Greetings I use the porta02 on my studio, mainly as a sketchbook for various demos. But the last week i have been recording this local band for 4 days using primarily the porta 02 .during the last day, re-recording bass track, i noticed some buzzing issue i never encountered before. I thought...

What would make a good, economical set up from tape to pc?

thanks to the balanced outs of the M-512, it is a perfect match to the ICE16D in's. the issue i am dealing with is the exact opposite - Taking the balanced outs of the ICE16D and getting 'em back to a console that lacks balanced line level inputs. Do you recommend to use the psuedo-balanced...

What would make a good, economical set up from tape to pc?

What do you mean by pseudo balanced out? Yes the mixer does have (unbalanced) direct outs. Actually, the only balanced out's/in's the M512 has are the (12) mic preamps inputs and the (8) balanced amp outputs - which every unbalanced output on the mixer can be routed to it. It's very much an...

What would make a good, economical set up from tape to pc?

Hey Dave. that indeed was the case if i had to regular version of the A&H ICE16 , but the one i bought is the balanced version. as the 238 lacks balanced i/o , i'm thinking of wiring it thru the mixer as i described

What would make a good, economical set up from tape to pc?

first off thank guys for your replies :) jamesperrett - the M512 got -30db pads , i bet they will have the same effect as your suggested attenuators? So to begin with, my MS-16 is currently out of order, some fuses had blown, my technician reckons the power supply failed. I lately decided...

What would make a good, economical set up from tape to pc?

So it took me some time but at last i got hands on the ICE16D for a good price. I do have some small technical question i'd be happy to ask you or anyone else here.... Actually i was on the hunt for the normal version, but then the balanced version popped up for 200$ so i grabbed it.. Inputs...

What would make a good, economical set up from tape to pc?

First off thanks everyone! sure the ICE16 looks like the best option for me. RFR, do you use the normal ICE16 version? the unbalanced version i mean. From looking thru the manuals, the TASCAM MS16 output level is rated at -10DBV, while the ICE16 input level is 0DBu, is that a proper gain...

What would make a good, economical set up from tape to pc?

Hey there I use in my home studio the Tascam MS-16, together with the Tascam M-512(yes i wish it was the 520) and ampex 351 as mixdown tape. Latley iv'e come to realization that i got to make some kind of hybrid set up down here (up untill now i took some tapes to a friend's studio, but that's...

Troubleshooting help - Ampex 351-2 won't go into Record

Hey guys I've spent the last few months refurbishing 351-2 model made by Ampex. many hours have been put into it , including refurbishing the transport, recapping, replacing bad R's and cleaning it down to the screw.. This week I finally assembled it all, starting testing it out. The preamps...
