Using VST plugins without a sequencer

There is VSTi host, which is relatively cheap but it is a Mac program. There's a sequencer usually packaged with Computer Music (a UK magazine) caled Muszys or something that is free and uses VST plugs. It should do what you want.

    MXL v67 - how much?

The black one is, sure enough, the V67b. There is/was a silver or chrome one, though I have never actually seen it. Bah to paying $20 extra bucks for the green, even though it is handsome. I've tried it out now, and yes it is pretty good on my acoustic guitar. I had been using a mxl 603 before...

    does anyone know this mic?

Frankie Vali? Or something like that? Ditto on the mics looking cool.

    MXL v67 - how much?

I just bought a Marshall v67 (the black one) at a Sam Ash store for $79.99, which they considered a "blowout" price, but it seemed like just a regular price to me. The prices I'm finding on the web are all over the place, though, and I'm having a hard time trying to figure out whether or not I...

    Trying to find the RNP

Gasp, speaking of FMR dealers, I saw one at Sam Ash the other night... the coolness rating has just dropped by about 25%. I will still buy one anyway, just not there.

    mic cables on ebay?

I haven't done any business with hotwired, but others have recommended their cables here. I have bought cables on ebay from Nnissel, he sells hand made canare star-quad cables with neutrik connectors for a slightly better price. I have been pleased with both of the cables I bought from him. You...

Is this normal: Signal delay thru mixer?

I can't think of anything in the circuitry of that mixer that could cause this problem. I'm with the wet/dry mix response. It's not that uncommon to change a setting without knowing about it. Or maybe you've got the dry signal panned to one side and the effect signal panned to the other. ...

    Reducing incidental noise

I'm all for incidental noise in general, but I really hate the sound of my right shirtsleeve agains the guitar, really not musical at all. So I just wear a shortsleeve shirt. One of those moments when you feel like you've really gone off the deepend with the audio geekiness. If you're working...

    mic flight cases (lowes)

Yes. I have a camera case like that I use for my guitar gear. The dividers are movable/removable.

    Orchestral module?

So I'm looking for oopinions on an orchestral sounds only module. The one I've heard that I like on records is the Roland M0c-1, which is old and hard to find on ebay, even. Any other suggestions? I don't have mega bucks to spend...

    Best Way to Mic Drums

Psst... dude... you can totally learn all of this stuff other places, like a book. Or a magazine. Or the thousands of free articles on the internet about music and recording. You can't learn a subject in and out with a 25 word response from someone on the internet. There just isn't a good answer...

Recording accoustic guitar: Getting rid of pick noise

Here's one thing I've noticed: If you grasp the pick too lightly there's more pick noise, and it's a really annoying sound. Not really sure why, but it sounds like that might be what you're describing. And when it comes to mic placement, inches can make a big difference. 12th fret.

using pitch control to create chourus effect...

I don't know that I have ever heard a chorus effect that sounds like a real ensemble. The simple detune and delay method is a cool effect, I have used it to create some very large-sounding guitar leads in the past. Mess around with it. Have some fun. Remember, though, that you will have to...

    Marshall MXL603S Mic's

I've been sort of impressed so far... I've used them on acoustic guitar, and the high frequencies seem a little bit hyped but not shrill... They are getting their first drum OH test next weekend, I suspect I will experience the same. They are definitely sensitive enough, though. No problems there.

    Mic Pre starter

Audio buddy defense The audio buddy is a great starter pre... it gets a little bit noisy at the very top of its range, but this is only really a concern when you're miking quiet things with dynamics. It has a little bit of a grainy, midrangey sound to it, but for $79 it is a huge improvement on...

    Marshall 603 for 49 bucks

You need every microphone in the world. Scratch that. You need two of every microphone in the world. Or three, if you can swing it. Seriously, though, the B1 has a very good reputation around here on acoustic guitar. There are some people who have given the 1006 good reviews for vocals... It...

    Marshall 603 for 49 bucks

I just ordered a pair, they had better not switch the price. My plan was to wait for the studio projects C4s to come out, but hell, this is a difficult deal to pass up.
