Windows Pro vs Home for your DAW

I've been using Win Home for a long time. But am upgrading my wife's pc to it for it's remote desktop built in to link with a couple clients she has. Any reason to upgrade my DAW as well?

Non Drummer Songwriters Using EZDrummer 3 "Bandmate" Info...

Didn't think about upgrading to ED3 until I saw the demo on the Bandmate function. As a non drummer... one of the toughest things has been using the needle in the haystack search function for drum beats. And for me the Tap-2-Find function has been weak given my chopsticks skill level finger...

HD Storage options for the PC

So my current 10 year old Reaper DAW has a 256GB spinning boot disk (7200rpm). I have a second 500GB spinning HD for my project files. I did this setup for faster read-writes. I'm looking at a new system with at least one SSD boot drive. I found two decent deals. One is a Dell with a 256GB SSD...

Sweetwater Creation Station Rack Mounted PC's

Well it's finally time to do a complete DAW workstation upgrade for Reaper. My current Windows PC is one I built many moons ago. It's worked really great for a long time. But it's showing it's age: I5-750 @2.67ghz (1rst generation... Old!), 12gb ram, 500gb HD (x2) not SSD's. External USB b/u...

Reducing Guitar Effects Pedal Noise top to bottom.

So after many years, I'm finally upgrading my guitar effects board. My pedals are currently a few old Boss units with one analog Ibanez delay. I'm still using a Boss PSM-5 P/S to power them. I just added a JHS 3 series chorus, Korg Pitchback tuner, and still waiting for delivery of the JHS Andy...

Attenuator on a Fender Champ (70's siilver face 8w)

Long shot question but... Anyone here used an attenuator on an older Fender Champ for recording? I've Googled a bit but not found a good referral or test.

Aphex Type C Aural Exciter between mic and interface.

I have an old Aphex Type C Aural Exciter that I was thinking of inserting between my AT2020 condenser mic and the Scarlett 2x2 interface. Since going digital years back, I've only used Reaper's Exciter plugin. The mic of course gets it's power from the interface. I do have a separate phantom...

Eventide Quadravox plugin and vocal ideas...

I've been demoing the new Eventibe Quadrovox plugin on my singer/songwriter vocals. My goal is to achieve simple vocal harmonies. Perhaps to add some interest to a chorus by fattening with the pitch shift and a delay. The sample presets get pretty bizarre though and I'm still figuring it out...

Need: Tascam M-208 mixer rack conversion rails

Looking to find away to convert my table resting 208 mixer into a rack. Mine has flat wood on the sides. I recall they made a rack adapter for them way back. Anyone know where to find? Thanks!

Blackstar HT-1R to replace Tech 21 Tradesman 10 for recording?

I've been using my Tech21 Tradesman 10 as my only recording amp. I mic it with my AT 2035 or SM58. But I mostly use the direct out so as not to be loud late at night but find that sound thin. That said, I just can't seem to get a nice clean or driven tube sound out of it either way. I tend to...

Final Mixing for Soundcloud (newbie vs the loudness wars again...)

So for the first time, I'm attempting to put a few of my songs up on SoundCloud. Low and behold virtually every other song I compare to there has been pumped up. So without going into the loudness wars... What do ya'll do prior to uploading. My tracks are all around -15db (Reaper). On the stereo...

EZKeys. Great for then simple keyboardist?

Hi all, Been eying EZKeys to my songwriting toolbox (I use Reaper as my DAW btw). I can play very simple chord progressions and string pads but that's about it. The videos look pretty good for showing it convert simple chords to articulated pieces as well as chord progression ideas. I'm...

Finally used DensitymkIII on my master buss

So I've entered the intrepid Mastering room... (go easy on me). I treated my "studio" and now have a very even sounding room. So now I'm finally trying to output my final mixes (can you tell I'm afraid of using the term Mastering?). Anyone else here using the DensitymkIII compressor on your...

    EZD, Expansion vs Midi Tracks

Upgraded to EZD2. I mainly do singer-songwriter with some pop/country/rock. Their soundcloud samples are limited. Thinking about Nashville or Songwriter1 to start with. Not sure if need new drum kits though. Which midi packs would achieve a country flavor? Still don't quite understand the...

Roxul Safe N Sound in only 3" thicknesses...

So I've finally have my spare room to setup. I've look long and far to find 2" or 4". But low and behold I can only find Roxul Safe N Sound in 3" thicknesses (special order from Lowes here in Los Angeles). So... double up to 6" for the bass traps and then use 3" for first reflections and such? Bill

    EZDrummer II... nice upgrade?

Been using EZDrummer for a bit now. Like most, I've found finding proper grooves (and cataloging them a bit cumbersome). The specs for II look like they've greatly improved the flow. Anyone here like to comment about it?

External rack mount hardware and Presonus AB USB

Maybe even a newb question but (using Reaper here)... I have an 80's era Aural Exciter in a rack. I used to use it in my old analog mixer and tape days. I've recently dug it out of retirement by chaining it between my condenser mic and Audiobox input. But that requires just the right settings...

Found this nice video about a home studio build

Perhaps many here may have seen this one produced by Sweetwater, but I just ran across it: Case Study: Project Studio Design & Build with Mitch Gallagher - Sweetwater Sound - YouTube Now I know there are "holes" in his design to the pros here. But what struck me as very helpful is the decision...

At home "mastering" with Studio One?

I'ma little intimidated to post in this section as a newb... But here goes. I've been reading here and there that some use Studio One for mastering because of its project interface (not seen it). As a newb, I'm still learning to mix proper in Reaper. So, I'm not in a position to really ask...
