Where Do All the Stars Go?

Thanks for the feedback. I have a HPF on all tracks, maybe some of them need a adjusting somewhat to clean it up a bit. Good ears on the drums, mainly OH and Room with only snare and kick having their own direct mic to boost them, was a different way of me mixing (usually I predominantly go for...

Where Do All the Stars Go?

Thanks for the feedback. I tend to write more dark tracks, anything else just ends up cheesy with me! Not sure the middle part was THAT quiet haha! Attempted to create a choir-ish type vocal section between the 2 verses, was quite a challenge with just me and a (VERY!) limited vocal range :D

Where Do All the Stars Go?

Been away a while, life gets too busy to spend as much time as I'd like in the 'man cave', but here is the the latest output: https://soundcloud.com/awesmusic/where-do-all-the-stars-go Thoughts are welcomed. Middle vocal part appear to split opinions, the majority disliking how quiet they are...

How do you create this effect?

Agreed it is unnatural, I have tried recording the 4 parts separately and also using the same part and re-tuning it but to no avail. Maybe it's the impact of the 'B' at the beginning of the example and mine starts with 'Ah', 'B' hits you that bit harder. Dang!! Unfortunately I can only rely on...

How do you create this effect?

Hi all, I have a harmony backing vocal part I'm struggling with. It's 4 beats, first note comes in on beat 1 and lasts till the end of beat 4, second note in on beat 2 last till end of beat 4, third note on beat 3 and fourth on beat 4, all lasting till the end of beat 4. This then repeats 4...

Who is I am? - Sonar colab

Hi all, so I got involved in my first colab on the Cakewalk forums, credit must also go to ThePogue (Tom) and Paulo on that forum for their input, moved the song on massively from when I posted my first version on this forum. Interested to hear your thoughts...

    Which mix sounds better?

Much preferred the first one. Everything seemed to just sit together better. The second sounded to be, not sure how to explain it, everything was separate. The first track I could imagine all the instruments being played in the same place, hope that makes sense haha. Although I found the noise...

looking for feedback on an original song

I really like the track! Same thought as PDP in respect of the intro and vocals. For a 4 minute track, over a minute is taken up on the intro. Loved the idea of tripling the vocals, but I could hardly make any of them out.

    Your thoughts please

So, I've had a play, unfortunately still struggling with the melody!! I've removed the reverb from the drums and placed a more subtle one on the master bus. Also tweaked the EQ on the low end of the acoustic guitar and kick drum, hopefully to clear out some of the muddiness. I did play with...

    Your thoughts please

Thanks for the feedback guys, much appreciated. Will certainly clean up the low end frequencies. The drums were a bit of a nightmare on my part, managed to get a sound I liked, then you know how it is, start playing with different plug ins and effects and next thing you know, it's all a mess...

    Your thoughts please

Hi all Think I've maybe started running before I can walk on this one! Posted up my first ever mix (of another bands song) a few months back. This now, is my first attempt at writing, recording and mixing my own track. Need to write/record some vocals yet, but am interested to hear (read) your...

My first mix - The Doppler Shift - Atrophy (Cambridge MT)

Thanks for the feedbac guys, it really is appreciated! As I said, first attempt so this gives me something to work on. I'm not at my PC at the moment, but from memory the Toms were panned right 9, 11 and 14 (floor tom), makes sense to bring them in a bit. In terms of structure, dropping in a...

My first mix - The Doppler Shift - Atrophy (Cambridge MT)

Hi all Looking for some feedback on my first ever mix! It's a track taken from the Cambridge MT site. It's mixed on Sonar X3 Producer. I have no previous music production experience (except reading a couple of books!) so this was a case of playing with things like EQ, compressions, panning...

    What Daw Do You Use

Had Cubase 5 but didn't really use it much. Switched to the Sonar X series (which again I've not used as much as I'd like) for Pro Channel and for collaborating with a friend. He was on Pro Tools and both jumped ship to Sonar at the same time.

    mixing books

As Miroslav stated, they are just one persons interpretation. However, I have found the following useful: Home Recording fro Dummies - Jeff Strong The Mixing Engineers Handbook - Bobby Owsinski Mixing Secrets for the Small Studio - Mike Senior

    Any new songs to mix?

Found Mike Seniors book VERY useful but kept forgetting to check out the website. So glad I stumbled across this topic, an absolute gold mine for tracks to tinker with. Thanks!

Does anyone know where I can find resources for musicians who want to collaborate?

You looked at joinmyband.com? Think it's aimed more at actual bands but no doubt there will be opportunities for distance collaborations too!

Anyone Upgrade to Sonar X3 Producer?

Bought X1 ages ago and not used it much as upgraded to X2 soon after! Not really used X2 much but still upgraded to X3. I've probably used X3 more today than I used X1 and X2 over the last 2 years! Liking it so far. Addictive Drums is a nice addition, as is Melodyne. Liking the ability to colour...

    Acoustic Track, feedback welcome

Listened to the latest mix, much easier on the ears! Really do like the track. For some reason, makes me think of Liam Gallagher, 1996/7 if he chilled out a bit and got a bit folky. In my defence, first day back at work so brain not fully functioning :)

    Acoustic Track, feedback welcome

I like it, love the nice chilled out, stripped back feel. As a big fan of music, but a beginner in the recording world, would say that it is a little left sided - too much going on with not a lot on the right side - maybe fatten up the guitar and centralise the drum?. Also couldn't really hear...
