Tape speeds up at the end of playback!

Hello everybody, I just purchased an RT-1050 pioneer 2-track reel to reel recorder from about'75. Seller said the machine was 100% ready to go, callibrated and working perfectly. The machine has the option to use large NAB 10" hubs or small 7" inch consumer sized reels, and the super small...

Are all 3340 units created equal?

So, first of all, thank you! So even the small 7" reeled units without the big hub adapters record at 15 ips? That's unique.....the only machine that must record at 15 with small hubs. I want to put together two replica studios: one from the mid '70s with ICs......I've already got this one...

Are all 3340 units created equal?

Are all 3340 Teac units (non-3340s) equipped to run at 15 ips... ? I've noticed some have small 7" reel units and cannot take the large NAB style reels.....and some units DO have the NAB hubs. Any thoughts? Thanks!!!!!!!

Teac M15: The recording board that always confuses me.

Wow, thanks for such a detailed answer.... What's confusing to me is that the channel on the m15 doesn't allow you the pick through whatever of the 8 busses you want. Look: http://rainbowjoe.byethost9.com/Pictures/Teac%2015%20Modules%20Strips.JPG Thank you so much for the help! Lt...I love...

Teac M15: The recording board that always confuses me.

I've read through the manual plenty of times and I gotta say....I think I'm too dumb for it. I want to know how I can use the 16 tracks I have with the 80-8 recorder. In other words, how can I use 8 drum mics/tracks on the mixer and send them to only two or three tracks on the tape machine? If...

What happens when you hit tape too hard?

This is an interesting question. I have here a '70s Teac 80-8 set up for 456 but I'm actually using Scotch 203 from the '60s/'70s which is a 0db level tape. What does this do to the tape? It sounds fine actually...but does it mean the tape is getting hit really hard? Again I really think is...

Does anyone know when Scotch stopped producing 203 tape??

Thanks for you information. I like your recordings.....that material actually sounds pretty robust man! Good writing too. What does your studio look like? I'd love to see....or maybe I already have...?

You ever just feel like throwing in the towel?

I've felt bummed before too. Like this frigging 80-8 I have....the thing out of nowhere decided when it would re-wind and when it wouldn't. Same for play. Not to mention the right reel table started sliding down and it's not because the allen screw was becoming loose! Something in the motor is...

Does anyone know when Scotch stopped producing 203 tape??

Sorry to take so long to get back to this thread.....Lonewhitefly, thank you so much. You have no idea how much that means to me! I'm SUPER obsessed with using tape made in the '60s and '70s. I bought a reel of 1/2" scotch 203 and use it with my 80-8.......and honestly compared to newer reels of...

Does anyone know when Scotch stopped producing 203 tape??

I'm very curious to know if anyone here can tell me or figure when scotch stopped making 203 tape.... particularly in 1/2" format...? Thanks...! JOHN:)

1979 (?) The Teac Model 5B : The Plot Thickens

Yo you like '70s synths! Check this out - a 1976 Octave Cat! Sound Sample of 1976 Octave Cat PS - I've always had a romance for the 800DV, and basically any synthesizer made in the '60s / '70s. The 800DV has a wide sounding filter from what I gather

1979 (?) The Teac Model 5B : The Plot Thickens

Damn! That's a great little recorder! I know of a handful of 70-8 recordings actually MADE in the '70s.... check out 700west.com ....the studio owner recorded tons of bands back then on a 70-8 and he's got mp3s up to show it. Unfortunately, he never used an M5 but rather, a Stevenson console...

1979 (?) The Teac Model 5B : The Plot Thickens

Here's a few more recordings I made with early '70s scotch 203 1/2" tape, a later '70s 80-8 1/2" recorder....and a older '76 Model 5 board. To record this all, I overdub every instrument one by one: This is a disco song called "Paradise" ...Rhodes piano from '73...hammond organ from '59...

1979 (?) The Teac Model 5B : The Plot Thickens

I had an older board, I believe just a "Model-5" which was probably made in 1976. The sound was MUCH more muffled than this Model 5B I'm working with. In some respects, I wish I still had that older one because I dunno...I really get off to that old "flat" unrealistic sound....but no doubt, the...

1979 (?) The Teac Model 5B : The Plot Thickens

As a longtime die-hard '70s tascam fan, I've always wondered how to date these suckers. I know a lot of folks bash these boards as unusable, but I have a penchant for authentic '70s sound. I run this board with a late '70s Teac 80-8 recorder, a matching DBX noise reduction module, and a reel of...

    i have a moog

you can post here if your rip the digital section out. Sure the synth might not work afterwards, but at least it's 100 per cent analog, and that's what counts right?
