    Free space for MP3s?

"It looks like just their FTP program doesn't support the larger filesize." Yeah, that's probably it. I just use regular old WS_FTP95 LE. They've got about 6 free servers including "cloud" but my two accounts are on "rain" and "storm", and I gotta tell ya that they all act a little different...

    First Microphone: SM57 or SM58?

If you're sure you aren't going to mic anything but electric guitar then the 57's good for that (although a 58 is fine too.) If however you can only afford one mic and you think you might be recording something other than electric guitar someday then I'd follow the advice here and opt for a...

    MP3 icons

Well, I could change the icon that way but I wasn't sure how to make it actually open with WMP. I know there's a browse feature for that but I wasn't sure where to browse and was afraid of screwing up my system. There's gotta be an easier way....

APSLIVE 1.84 DRIVER for SB Live--yuck!

Thanks, but that's exactly how I had mine set up too. The problem is with the output mixer. If you leave it set to output through lines 1 & 2 then your previously recorded wav files will play along with the new track your laying down. In order to isolate the pre-recorded stuff from the new...

    Free space for MP3s?

Hey! I just became a senior member! Does my cake and party hat come in the mail?

    Free space for MP3s?

Yeah you're all right, 2mb is small for music files. I don't know what I was thinking. I do know that I've loaded huge files over there though so if there's a limit they must not check your files. I'll look at the one you mentioned Tim. Always on the outlook for better hosts.... :)

APSLIVE 1.84 DRIVER for SB Live--yuck!

Are you sure you're using the latest drivers? You should have an input mixer screen that has a lot of red writing on it now. It looks quite a bit different than previous versions. If so, were you able to save output mixer configurations and then re-open them? I never have once; I always get a...

    Free space for MP3s?

2mg is huge I think. For mp3 files it ought to be big enough anyway. I've loaded half hour tunes recorded at 128k with no problems. I haven't had a spam problem yet. You might be right though, but that's the chance you take with any free server space. So far so good anyway.

    Free space for MP3s?

Just thought I'd mention that in my ever ongoing quest to find free web hosts that will actually allow you and your friends to upload and download MP3 files (kind of an essential thing to have if you've got a music site, eh?) I actually found a really good deal. The only catch is that it has a...

APSLIVE 1.84 DRIVER for SB Live--yuck!

I dunno, maybe it's just me but the latest APS drivers for the SB Live series has been nothing but trouble. The older ones worked pretty well but I'm so unhappy with the 1.84 that I've dumped it altogether and gone back to the original drivers that came with my SB card. I don't use midi so I...

    silencing fans on my computer

You can get quieter fans at any run-o-the mill electronics/computer store like Best Buy, or Circuit City etc. They're a cinch to install. I think mine were called Alco or something like that. They're about twice as quiet now. (I have 2 fans in my PC.) I still have to put cushions aroun it. I...

    MP3 icons

I'm sure there must be a simple way to correct this but I've looked under options menus for both Windows Media Player (my default MP3 player) and CE and neither of them say anything about it. The thing is that whenever I save a file in CE as an MP3 it gives it a CE icon. So if I go into my...

Anybody wanna hear Marshall's MXL 57M, $100 condenser mic?

Cyan, When I'm messing around here at the house (my keyboard player and best bud has all our studio gear at his place) I go an extremely amateurish route. I just make little demos for the group here so things don't have to be all that great. You wouldn't believe it but I just plug a mic into a...

Anybody wanna hear Marshall's MXL 57M, $100 condenser mic?

SING! YIKES!!! No, No, No; you don't want that. ;) Well, you guys might just be right about the proximity effect thing. It's not like I have tons of mics laying around. The few I've used over the years didn't seem to have near as much as something like an SM58 for instance. I would beg to...

Anybody wanna hear Marshall's MXL 57M, $100 condenser mic?

This is a one-inch diaphragm condenser mic from Marshall that sells for a hundred bucks (really, I'm not kidding.) I told Maston in another thread that I'd make a short test of it with vocal and acoustic guitar so he could see what it sounds like. I was a bit too lazy to tune up my guitar this...

    Marshall or Nady?

Dumb, Dumber, and Me Hey Maston, you still hanging around? You would not believe the dopey, and I mean dopey thing I did. I was messin around with the mic after work yesterday and popped the body apart to look for a bass roll off switch, (it doesn't have one by the way.) Well, anyhow, this...

    Marshall or Nady?

Hey Matson! The wait for good quality condensers at low prices is over as far as I'm concerned. I just can't believe it. Really, this thing is amazing for the price. It wasn't quite as good on acoustic guitar as I had hoped but the real surprise was on the vocals. My voice has never, and I mean...

    Marshall or Nady?

Maston, Nope, at least not to the best of my knowledge. Only one will work after the new driver install. It's really not a problem unless you're a big gamer and like to use the subwoofers for that. Maybe you have other reasons. Actually, you can use both drivers and switch back and forth...

    XLR to 1/4

That's a new one on me. I haven't piad much attention to the details of the newer Cassette machines in recent years so maybe they do have balanced 1/4 inputs now. That would probably eliminate the need for a low-Z converter. Still, those XLR to XLR cords can be used for many years to come...
