    Tremolo effect question

Is there any way mathematically to line up a tremolo effect with the tempo of a song? I know some (including myself) often line it up by tapping a pedal. But is there any way to do this mathematically? I would think there would be, and it would be more precise.

    Dithering question

Thanks for the dose of reality. Seems that other areas should be arresting my attention instead. Yeah, but the problem is that I am an artistic type and a math geek :eek:!!! Understand the torment I'm going through? :):)

    Dithering question

Yes it does, but I actually wanted to utilize the on board effects and compression of the Korg. For some reason, it sounds better than what I have on my PC, even though I use the PC for other tasks pertaining to recording. Just to clarify, because I think we're in pretty confusing territory...

    Dithering question

The problem with this method though is that I can't save the mix at 24 bit. It's automatically converted to 16 when mixed down. The many tracks stay at 24, but the resulting two tracks from the bounce go to 16. I don't know what the system is doing, but it may well be the latter as you say. I...

    Dithering question

Thanks for the posts. It was informative to read (Glen) what is going on when one does or does not dither. The experiment of mshilarious was also interesting. Based on what everyone is writing, I’m leaning towards not doing it. It seems that there would be just about no difference. By not...

    Dithering question

re: It is confusing,, my apologies. I think the most important sentences are these two: I’ve read that not dithering in a transition between 24 and 16 adds noise to the recording. Does this also apply to mixing many 24 bit tracks down to two 16 bit tracks? Dithering is often done...

    Dithering question

I have a bit of a dilemma with my tracks. They are all recorded in 24 bit, but my KORG D1600 only allows me to mix down 8 tracks at 24 bit. It also allows me to mix down 16 tracks at 16 bit. The song I’m working on has many tracks and really could use the 16. I can import them (as 24 bit) to a...

    Finding the Right Tempo

I wanted this post to be informative as well as inquisitive. :) Putting it mildly, I have always strained in finding the correct tempo when laying down songs in my home studio. (I am a rock or pop/rock singer/songwriter.) Sometimes I’m too fast, other times I’m too slow. I like using a click...

How often do you practice voice?

pitch Pitch really hasn't ever been a problem except for when I first started singing. I have recordings from when I first started(four years ago), and there were some problems. That was before I discovered the idea of thinking about the note you want to hit before you sing it. That has since...

How often do you practice voice?

Thank you, and thanks for the perceptive post. I think that makes a lot of sense, finding a trainer. This is something that I HAVE to do. Funds are a bit limited though at this juncture(hopefully not in a year or so), and I live in a country town really in the middle of nowhere. Truth be told...

How often do you practice voice?

As far as I can see, there isn’t a forum for the topic of voice, and that is why I am posting this here. Hopefully, this is a correct enough place. If not, please forgive :) I am especially interested in how often people who sing lead in rock or folk practice. This is something I have never...

Looking to upgrade my condenser for Vocals & Acoustic guitar

Good Mic for price range The Rode NT1 is excellent for vocals and acoustic guitar, and is somewhere in the middle of your stated price range. That's one to check into for sure, it sounds quite good to my ears.

    Sonar 6 MIDI Question

keyboard connection Through the S/PDIF. I also have an additional MIDI cable connecting the keyboard and the cable attached to the S/PDIF, as the cable plugged into the S/PDIF is not long enough to reach. I also have the capability of plugging directly into the USB port with the keyboard if...

    Sonar 6 MIDI Question

Live Playback My interface is a two-channel Presonus Firebox, and I have a PC that was close to top-of-the-line six months ago. I am also using a Casio WK 3000 as an MIDI keyboard. The RAM, Processor and other elements in the PC are way above the recommended amounts for Sonar 6. I am pretty...

    Sonar 6 MIDI Question

Hi, I am new to MIDI, and have some basic questions. I was wondering if it is possible in Sonar 6 to play and record samples live. I don't particularly like programming drums, and would prefer to press the keys and hear the drums on key press. Would I have to copy or drag the samples to...

    changing tempo of tracks

changing speed There surely is much going on in the mix (20 or 30 guitar tracks though not at the same time), and I can't really notice a difference with drums. The track is going from like 4:05 to 4:15. Your right about acoustic guitars, and often with electric guitars for that matter. If they...

    changing tempo of tracks

I couple months ago, I recorded a song in a different key and at a faster tempo. The drum track was excellent. Since then, I have rerecorded the song slower, but can’t seem to get a drum track I’m pleased with. (I am using a different kit now) Here's what I want to do: Keep the old drum track...

    Distorted Guitar (attn: guitarists)

Good evening everyone. I have recorded multiple takes of some distorted guitar over the last couple of days which I am reasonably proud of. The style of music is not really punk or metal though, it’s more of a singer/songwriter cut with an edge, it has what might be termed “light punkish...
