I have a UA-100 and I have to tell you that I experienced a low frequency hum when recording, no matter which guitar I used. I've only been able to solve that by attaching a wire to the output jack of my guitar and grounding it to my body while recording. Sheesh. Other than that, though,the...
Howzit Ray,
If I'm not mistaken, the XL-100 you're referring to is the Gemini turntable. I don't believe it has a preamp in it so you'll need to run it through an amplifier that has a "phono" input. From what I've read, turntables emit a weaker signal than tape decks and other components...
Nope......was playing on an Epiphone Howard Roberts (the model back then was almost identical to the casino) back in 1965 and loved it. Traded it in for a Gibson, though, and loved it more. Oh well, personal taste.
Howzit Eurythmic - sorry it's taken me so long to thank you for your reply. I ended up purchasing a Denon turntable that has a pre-amp built in for $149 from Consumer Direct, which fits into my budget nicely. I've also done some research on the net about cleaning records and read about...
I agree with Drstal.....those catalogs are a rip. I buy my verbatim cdr's at Sam's club for 19.95 a twenty pack, and that's including the jewel cases. Haven't had any problems with them on my CDRW5000 either. By the way, there are some Tascam CD recorders that will only use "consumer" discs...
I'd like to start transfering all of my old LPs onto CD and realize that I know very little about turntables. I have a Tascam CDRW5000 to record the LPS onto CD, but need to get a turntable. I've heard that the output of a turntable is weak and needs to be boosted by some sort of a pre-amp...
Have to agree with Drstawl about the CDRW 5000. I just got one and although I'm probably not as adept at using it as Drstawl is, I can tell it sounds goooooood and is easy to use. I've heard through the grapevine here though, that Tascam is going to discontinue it, if it hasn't already. I got...
OK, I went nuts with the tax return, picked up some new equipment, and would appreciate some advice on how to set this stuff up with the equipment I already have. Here are the pieces of the puzzle - I'd like to hear your opinions about how they should be set up.

Hey, thanks a million, Gaffa, you've helped me out a lot! By the way, I passed through Melbourne about 11 or 12 years ago on my way to Brisbane. I played music at the Expo there. Australia is one of the nicest places I've ever been to. Couldn't get used to driving on the left side of the...
Can anyone tell me what kind of recorder I would need to put my stuff on a CDDA (Compact Disc Digital Audio) disc rather than a CD-R? Apparently some players (like mine) won't read a CD-R disc (which really ticks me off). And most importantly, would it be worth it to get one?
Yep, it's happenned to me, but when it did it was because the PUNCH OUT button was activated (I have no idea why) and the right locator was set right at the begining. Can you picture what I'm trying to describe?
I've found that the context-sensitive help contains information that isn't in the manual (or info that i haven't seen in the manual anyway). That's helped me a LOT. I was stumped about recording in stereo until I hit the help button .
Howzit,
Are you saying that with this CD recorder you don't have to turn your file into a wave file before burning? If this is true, than it is exactly what I've been looking for. Can you tell me more about it? Really would appreciate it! Thanks .
Howzit....
Recording audio from midi is explained in the manual under "mixing your midi tracks with the audio". What it involves is actually connecting the output from your midi source to the input of your recorder (or soundcard, or in my case, my Roland UA100). You need to make sure the...
Wanted to thank you guys for your replies and offer a solution I found at a roland UA100 website. I had to go to the UA100 mixer and turn the SUB (input) main volume down. that seems to have corrected the problem. Hope this can also help someone else. Aloha.

Does anyone know why whenever I switch to line input on my Roland UA100 (that's the setting that has to be used when outputting digitally)the sound comes out mono instead of stereo? I just can't figure it out and am about ready to just output with analog instead. Thanks.

Hey Drstahl,
Thanks for the advice, I'm going to try it tomorrow. By the way, I have a Tascam 112R. I've been mixing down to a minidisk lately, though, and kind of like it. My wife's bugging me right now, but when I have some free time I'd like to describe my system to you and see if you...
Hi,
I thought I'd put my 2 cents in also. What Emeric says is absolutely true. Let me tell you how I've transfered a lot of old albums and cassettes onto CD.
First of all, whether you get a SCSI or an IDE burner will depend on what your computer uses. If your competer is IDE, you'd better...
Oh Yes!!!
Okay, the problem was in the record levels in the UA100. I raised the levels and now everything is coming through clear as a bell! So the problem wasn't with Cubase or Cool Edit, it was with my limited cranial capacity, I guess. Well, I never said I was smart. Anyway - One thing...
