First impressions...I think the instruments need to be a little louder. Turn the vocal down a tiny bit. Bring the snare up. Sounds like its pretty far away. I want the drums to be a lot bigger. Send your drums off to a reverb send. Use some compression and bring up the room sound. Get 'em...
Again, band came in this weekend and recorded a rough demo. Drums recorded with two LDC overhead mics and a CAD kick mick and SM57 on the snare. Didn't modify the drum EQ too terribly. Brought out the beater on the kick, cut some of the low-mids (220Hz). Rolled off the lows on the snare...
I think the popping were some buffer errors during tracking...whoops. Posting updated mix in a little bit.
Mix #2:

Everyone, thanks a lot for the feedback. I should have specified that I cut around 220Hz from the kick drum, not the snare. I did not specify in the OP, so I apologize. However, I did roll lows off on the snare because I thought it sounded way too loud in the fundamental. So you are saying I...
I did a band's "demo" a few nights ago. I have mixed most of the songs, but this is only one of the three. Not sure what to classify them as...maybe grunge meets Conor Oberst. The band consists of two guitarists and a drummer. I did it for them for free to help build my clientele up.
Drums...
I really wouldn't mind doing that -- but, they always sound different in the store than in the room...
I guess this might be my only bet. I might check out the Rokit sub. I see more good reviews than bad on it.
Recently, I have been trying to treat my small room to help my mixing. I pulled my table away from the wall and this affected my bass response. I produce dance music as well as record bands in my house.
I was looking for a good subwoofer because there is no bass in my room. I recently ran...
When I clicked on this, I thought I was listening to an A7X demo.
The verses have too much guitar going on. Sounds not tight and muddy.
The playing is rad though.
Your second mix is miles ahead of the first. Sounds so much better.
I was going to put one in for Zeitgeist by the Smashing Pumpkins.
I have heard a plethora of modern music over the past few years, and this one definitely takes the cake. I can't believe how smashed it is (lol). Californication is second, for me.
I would say most artists who are signed and have support were just lucky (as mentioned before). It also depends on who you know.
In an age where gear and recording is cheap, it is overwhelming how hard it is to expand a fan base due to the sheer fact that everyone and their dog has a band you...
I have been recording for a few years and have done a few different bands' work. I wanted to break into doing voice overs and a few other things.
What I want to know, is how do I get my name out to the corporations that need work like this done? In Omaha, there are lots of advertising firms...
I recently recorded a hardcore metal/punk band  and they just wanted to come in and do it. No click.
So we miked them up and hit record. Knocked out a few tracks and really they sounded pretty good, even only tracked. They were wanting a relatively rough sounding type of deal...
Right now I have barely any monitoring system for my studio. I am running a couple Firepods and a headphone amplifier.
Right now, I have to let the audio run through the Firepod(s), then into the program, then back out to the headphone amp. All happens through the FirePod. This causes lag...
Uploaded the third mix...this one should not be messed up now.
I EQ'd the guitar a little differently this time around, also boosted the vocals, and spaced out the clean guitar. I did something with the drums but can't hardly remember :D :P
