I'll second the sm7b. It might just be the best mic under 500 bucks, period. Besides, you're already covered in the cheap condenser mic area. Why not spend the money on something that is actually great quality and can be found in just about any studio in the world. There's a reason studios...
Well in that case I'm selling them all and seeing what kind of mass discounts are available from Nady. I'd rather live forever with a million crap mics than die with a few decent ones. :D
It's definitally possible. But if you sell one mic for $2000 and replace it with 200 ten dollar mics, does that add 200 years to your life? Doesn't seem quite fair...
I'll play:
Peluso R14
Shure SM57(2)
Shure Beta 52
Shure SM7B
Rode NT5(2)
AKG C414XLII
Audio-Technica AT4060
Blue Cactus
That's 10. Only need about 35 more and I'll stop buying.
I'm surprised I haven't seen a mention of a Peluso R14 on this thread. I just got one, and it's given me that "ribbon sound" I was wanting. You can go to http://soundpure.com/showProduct.do?id=812 and hear sampes as well as a shootout with the 121. Peluso mics in general are excellent mics...
It would be a waste of money to buy a nice preamp just for a keyboard. It can improve the sound, but not by enough to warrant spending a couple grand. If you have a couple of nice pres laying around though, you might as well hook it up. I ran my keys through all my different pres and there...
I own a 428, and it's decent. If you can't make it work, the problem isn't the 428. I had the 3124, and you really need to push it to get your money's worth. I didn't feel like buying 4 ATTY's, so I sent it back and got a Pacifica and an ADL600. The Pacifica has little magical gnomes inside...
+1 SM7b. A condenser mic picks up everything. In a bedroom studio, you just want it to pick up your voice. A cheap condenser mic will give you a lot of silibance, also. A nice dynamic is much better than a cheap condenser any day of the week. You might also want to look at your preamps and...
If you have a triton and want more realistic sounds, a karma should be the last board for you to buy. They have the exact same patches. The difference is in the features. I'd either get a motif rack or roland xv for more bread and butter sounds
It's not JUST a Rompler, but if you're the type of person who feels it's necessary to buy a triton, motif, and a fantom, I'd have to assume you're not too big on sound design. In which case you would treat it as a Rompler and just use it for bread and butter presets. A triton, motif and...
That's a lot of romplers. That'll be a lot of worthless formerly expensive modules in your rack in a couple of years. What could you possible need a motif, fantom, and a triton for? Their sounds aren't that much different, and there's this whole thing called editing. I had the fantom, traded...
I bought the XL-7 Command Station new for 500 bucks. I didn't really like it. The sounds were just too thin for me. If you're going to have a Motif, Fantom, Triton, and Nord Lead, I think you'd be better off spending 350 dollars on another toy. I've had a Fantom, and I currently have a Motif...
I guess deep down I already knew that, and I know what I have to do. I just wanted someone else to tell me to get rid of that old toy. For some reason, of all the toys I've cycled through, this one has endeared itself to me. I only posted that message hoping that someone would bash the DPS 16...
I've had an AKAI DPS16 for a couple of years now, but the temptation to switch to computer recording became too great, and I bought a Firepod. I love the Firepod, and I want to get the Mackie Control interface to go along with it. The only problem is, and I feel guilty for saying this, the DPS...
