    ASIO buffer vs buffer number/size?

Hey guys. Through the VST Setup menu there are two places to enter a buffer size. The first is on the VST Setup screen (directly under "Number of buffers"). On that same screen, if you click the "Control Panel" (or something like that) button there is another field to enter another (ASIO?)...

    stupid mixing question - levels

Ok, I'll allow extra time before expecting a response so you can finish laughing first. When mixing down, do you want the input levels as close to zero as possible and the Master Output level lowered to a minus level to avoid clipping? OR do you want the Master Output close to zero and the...

    Monitored vocal levels need boost

Hey guys. No limiter (harware or software during recording). I thought of trying some compression while recording but wasn't sure if the signal is then recorded compressed or "virgin". The SPDIF/AES idea sounds interesting. I'll have to refresh my memory as to the input options on the Presonus...

    Monitored vocal levels need boost

Hey guys. My vocalist is recording to pre-made tracks. On the lows she can hear her self through the headphones fine but when things liven up and she's pushing some power vocals she can't hear herself in the headphones. I've tried turning down the levels on the music track but then the music...

Buffer size vs. number of buffers

Hey guys. I think I read that one of the latency issues is that a buffer has to fill before the data is "passed on" to the next step. That's why smaller buffer size can decrease latency. This got me to thinking, if you create more buffers but using a smaller buffer size, will you reduce...

Doesn't recognize dongle but ran ok for 4 months

The Syncrosoft upgrade seems to have worked. Now if only I could figure out why I have to pull out and reinsert the dongle and then "refresh" the License Control screen every time I boot up, I'd be great.

Doesn't recognize dongle but ran ok for 4 months

FYI - Cubase tech support recommends updating the Syncrosoft License Control software. Go to the Syncrosoft website, download the update/upgrade, uninstall Syncrosoft from your machine, install the update. Suppose to fix this issue 99% of the time. I'll try it tonight.

Doesn't recognize dongle but ran ok for 4 months

Hey guys. I've been running Studio Case (Cubase SE) since August with no problem. Retail version, not a crack. Recently upgraded to Win XP SP2, added an additional disk drive for more space and installed the VST components from Studio Case. A few days after the upgrades I booted up, started up...

    Playback issues after some actions

Playback "stutter" after some actions Hey guys. I'm recording vocals for a pre-recorded track. I've been through the "PC optimization for audio" stuff. Everything works great. Load the track, record the vocals, playback. Sounds great. But when I try to "Pitch Shift" the sound track (-4...

    Suggestions for output "splitter box"?

Someone else recommended the PCS to me as well. So I'm guessing the PCS has built in headphone pre-amp (since it has volumn control)? This would mean I wouldn't have to purchase a separate headphone-pre box (rolling that money into somthing like the PCS) I also like that it looks like I could...

Building panels for bass. Will this work?

Ah, Mr Winer. (I say "MR." because I have read several of your articles over the last couple days and have been very impressed. :)) Just after I posted this, an email about the rigid fibergalss retailer arrived. I'll be checking out one of their locations. Before that, I was thinking several...

    Suggestions for output "splitter box"?

Hey guys. I have a Lynx L22. Great card but only 2 analog outs (out1-L & out2-R, I believe). Problem is I want to hook speakers AND headphones. The cheap-o way is Y-adapter. But only volumn control is in the software (no vol on speakers or headphones). So I'm guessing I need a box that...

Placing Panels, Please Advise - Diagram Included

Hey Perceptes. I'm not familiar with the rigid fiberglass panels (yet, just looking into it now), but if 12 2" panels is too many couldn't you double up a couple 2" to make a 4"? Are they stackable?

Building panels for bass. Will this work?

Hey guys. Anyone try building there own acoustic panels with Fiberglass insulation (Pink)? If I stuff 2 or 3 layers (trying to compress it) into a 2'x4' box I build, will that help on the bass end or is that still only getting the mids and highs? Thanks.

Is there a FAQ for materials, ideas, temp walls, etc.?

Hey guys. Is there a FAQ or something on soundproofing materials, construction ideas, gotchas, etc. I want to build something in a rented apartment for a vocalist. We have a couple walk-in closets with no "outside" walls but I need to "acoustically treat" whatever area I use. I've seen some...

    A Good Hard Drive

Just to add a little to this... The speed increase in Raid format is because of the following (assume two disks): - the "system" can assign a chuck of data to be written to drive "A" - while drive "A" is writing that data, the system can assign the next chunk of data to be written to drive "B"...

    Cubase newbie-VERY low record levels

Hey Easto. Inputs, outputs and effects are as expected (at least what I expect). I tried importing an audio file from CD into Cubase. The neighbors can confirm that end of things is working fine. I'll check the .Wav file format question (but I think this is ok). Thanks. Roger

Too much gain with Shure Beta 58a?

Hey guys. Setting up my first PC based system with little recording experience. The setup is as follows: Shure Beta 58A > RNP8380 mic-pre > Lynx L22 audio card > Cubase SE Right now I need to set the mic-pre Gain around 54-60 to get good levels in Cubase. This setting seems a little high to...

    Cubase newbie-VERY low record levels

Hey skipper. Be gentle with me. :) I'm not in front of my PC right now. Where would I find the Velocity Level settings? FYI - I tried turning up the gain on the mic-pre. At +60 I am getting great levels in Cubase. I like things set pretty flat, seems to me +60 gain is a little high. Comments...
