I've recently downsized to just two Lexicons - an MPX110 and a MX200. They compliment my dual Tascam 2488 setup nicely - 5 effects sends and 16 insert compressors. More than enough for my needs!
I still have a dBX 215 Graphic that I used on the last album. Not sure if I should sell this or hang...
It's swings and roundabouts really.
The DP-01/02 isn't really a direct replacement for the 788 as it has far less inputs and records at a lower bit depth (16 bit only). To give you some background, the 788 was sold at a price point closer to that of the current 2488.
On the other hand, it...
There's no enveloping function as such. I actually tend to record different vocal sections to different tracks for this very reason.
You can of course semi-automate the mixing by saving scenes and then manually cycling through them during mixdown (or you can use MixerMuse software to automate it).
Think it's a MKII / NEO only feature though curiously I cound't find any mention of it in either manual other than in a screenshot on page 24. I haven't actually tried it but I'd imagine that if you select YEs it will open the new song with the current scene settings rather than the default routing
I am Mr budget mic!
Shure SM58
Sennheiser E825s (x2)
AKG D68s
SE1a (matched pair)
Studiospares S900 (SDC) x2
Studiospares SD101 (kick)
Studiospares S930 (instrument)
I've had a few others which have got lost along the way
Good point but I guess that applies to all mics?
OK, so here's a bit of a comparison between the Studiospares S900 and the SE1a, both of which I own.
Looking at the frequency response graphs (lets assume for a moment they give us a true representation) the SE1a has an extended bottom end and...
For sure, lots of mics are doubtless made in the same factories (same applies to just about everything these days, from TVs to cars).
I guess the problem is how can you make a comparison before splashing out the cash? I certainly don't pay much attention to the quited frequency responses
By no name I simply mean unbranded.
For example I have a few Studiospares drum mics

OK, this question has been bugging me for a while, namely as a very broad generalisation how much better are branded mics compared to those familiar looking no-name types?
For sure, a £40 mic probably isn't going to sound as good as £200 mic, regardless whether it has a name on it or not (then...
Thanks for the suggestions. The MoreMes look kinda cool but I don't think they are available here in the UK. (I did like there solution for drum isolation phones though - that's given me an idea!)
The Ultrasone HFI-450 do have a familiar look to them. I will investigate more
No, pin 3 is normally the negative side of the balanced signal so needs to be grounded when using unbalanced cables else no current will flow. Phantom power is actually supplied equally to both pins 2 and 3 when is use (indeed it is because there is no difference between the relative voltage...
They look good but aren't they supra-aural? (i.e. sit on your ears rather than around). We have a couple of pairs of MDR-V300s which sound really great but are also supra-aural and don't provide anywhere near enough isolation
We need to acquire some circum-aural closed back headphones, primarily for tracking. Much as I'd like to buy 5 pairs of Sony MDR-7506 the budget won't stretch to this. Anyone recommend any good ones at a lower price point?
The 2488 accepts balanced or unbalanced 1/4in jack. The most likely explanation is the one of the pins in the XLR is not soldered. See link below for the correct wiring configuration
