How does Billboard track record sales?

Nielsen SoundScan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia This wiki may clear some things up^^^ Does a good job of explaining it. Under "how nielsen soundscan tracks scales" it lists "distributers" near the bottom. This is where what you said comes into play, it's not a closed loop. Those...

    Donations, is it ok?

Read first Here's the full thread with links At the absolute bare minimum your going to have to apply for a synchronization license for the songs used to stay legal. Again if your a registered business you want to go about it the right way so you don't get sued, especially if your promoting...

    Donations, is it ok?

copying your post Jerberson, kind of interested in the answer and know someone on another board who deals with a lot of the legality of copyrights. From my understanding though, you can't or "aren't expose to distribute" any copyrighted material, even if it's for free. You still have to pay...

How does Billboard track record sales?

not at all. Man, you just made me go digging through my notes lol, couldn't remember the exact name of it. We had covered this a while back in a music business class. Billboards and the charts are done through what is called Nielsen SoundScan, just SoundScan for short, it's a tracking system...

Rokit 8 or yamaha Yamaha HS80m?

I love the HS80s, by far my favorite monitors I've gotten to use in a studio. Definitely worth the money IMO, I'm saving up to get some for my home use, much more accurate low end in comparison to the rokits. And I have to ask, the room does have a lot to do with bass response and what you...

Toys R Us plastic Drums, recorded in garage on analog tape - Win a Grammy? Yep.

In context to the actual interview video they made a while back about the whole recording process, Dave DEMO'D older songs with a crappy plastic drum set. Taylor still played his set for the actual recordings. The actual point they were trying to make was the room has the most to do with the...

    New Bedroom Studio Pictures

+1 to the ultratouch, I discovered the stuff a while back and made a couple panels with it, just awesome! And it is rated better for low end than OC or Rockwool.

    Absorption/diffuser combo panel

Well isn't anything that can scatter waves in random patterns technically a diffuser? From my undereducated understanding of diffusers, the whole point is to scatter sound waves randomly throughout a room to get an even sense of reverberation in a room, cutting down on flutter echos and...

    Drums acoustic treatment

it's ok lol, I have a knack for not being able to explain things clearly:p. What I was saying is, go a head and build your 2 double gobos attached to each other so they can fold out like you said. So you have just 2 pieces of 703 left now. I would then build two more 2x4' panels, not attached...

    Absorption/diffuser combo panel

Was just surfing youtube and found this video of what's called a flexifuser from prime acoustics. Can any of the more seasoned people here comment on the possible effectiveness of a design like this??? Essentially it's a two in one absorber/diffuser panel. Thought it was a kind cool idea, and...

    Drums acoustic treatment

Do what ever you think is going to be most applicable for your room. Either way, your going to have to buy another bundle in the future anyway. Option 1, will probably give you the most immediate results with a better quality drum recording. How ever, I personally wouldn't make smaller bass...

    Would you buy this one?

I'll never say never...but they are definitely not on my list of buys or even dream guitars. Now if I won one or was given one, that'd be a different story, and I'd be tempted to sell it to get money for a different guitar or amp.

    Good, fairly priced compression ideas?

continue to use the digital plug ins for now. There is little reason starting out to need an outboard compressor, the lack of experience and cheap quality definitely don't mix will ;) lol. With the lack of experience comes the part where you mess up tracks over and over again, you over...

    Drums acoustic treatment

Yes, definitely! Those are what we call Gobos. And they are a great idea if your for portable room room treatment when your in a position where you can't hang panels from your walls. They can be used for anything and everything to cut down on reflections and semi-isolate the instruments.

    What else do I need?

Monitors aka, speakers. Much more reliable and clear when your mixing than headphones or god forbid the built in speakers on your laptop  If you happen to be in school you can get the student rate for Protools, it's essentially half off and you get 4 years of free upgrades, check out...

    What else do I need?

The AT2020 is a good starting microphone. You could do a lot worse ;). What are you currently using for a DAW aka what software are using to record to on your computer? That is your basic set up though, mic, preamp/interface, and then a DAW to put it all into to edit. You don't need a...

    HSG's messy studio

That's not too bad. Kind of wish I would have taken a pic of my studio floor before I cleaned up the other day...A haitian earth quake doesn't compare to the mess and destruction that was in there. (<<yes I'm going to hell for that)
