    Blue Mics ???

I recently picked up a Baby Bottle from 8th Street and they throw in the shockmount/pop screen combo for free, basically. And Richard, in my last splurge I picked up a B1 just for the hell of it too. Also, funny that you mention re-micing things. I have a set of V-Drums and this is what I'm...

    Studio Projects B3???

The clip that came with my B1 was stripped the first time I tried to use it. Not the end of the world since I plan on getting the shockmount, but its annoying in the meantime.

    Blue Mics ???

Even though I really didn't need another large condenser, I purchased a Baby Bottle recently but I'm glad I did. It's clean but not cold. Richard, what are your plans for the SM7? I have one and I use it for vocals.

Looking for opinions on Studio Projects B-1

Well, mine smells funny and the mic clip's thread was stripped out of the box. Other than that it sounded ok on acoustic guitar and really good on my guitar amp with distortion. It's clean but doesn't sound as bright as my NT1000 on the amp. I'll probably use it along with my 57 all the time for...

    Reverb

Check out Reverbit: http://www.silverspike.com/Home/home.html It's my fave reverb for that rich lush sound and it's only 39 bucks. There's a free room simulator there too (Reverbit isn't so great for that) but I have yet to test it out.

    Martin & Taylor Users

I picked up a Martin HD28 on closeout recently. I played a bunch of other guitars in its price range, 1500 and under, but liked it best. I went in looking for a Gibson or Taylor. Since then I've been reading about the poor and/or high action on Martins. Mine must have been in the store for a...

    Are expensive guitars overrated?

I think you get what you pay for. I just purchased my first expensive guitar, a Martin HD28, and it is the most amazing thing in the world. It almost plays itself. I'd played $1000 acoustics in the shop before but never thought they were that much better than my Washburn D21S. Then I played the...

How many recording engineers does it take to change a light bulb?

Littledog's post was tops, but here's mine anyhow: Vintage bulbs are best and worth the expense: they provide a more even, musical light that is easier on the eyes. Some of these new digitally modeled lights are so harsh they require the use of sunglasses to filter out the excessive brightness...

    the way it is

Nubs gets some love from me for having the good taste to put 81/2 on his list. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what he's said that has upset you folks so much.... zekthedeadcow makes nubs point, I think. I make music for myself and think it's wonderful that quality tools are available to...

    ANy Soundcraft M-Series users?

I expected the faders of my M12 to have more resistance than they did as well. They look so sturdy. But I wasn't disappointed for long. I kind of like them better now that I've used it for a while. I think it is more of a different kind of feel than it is that they are cheap, which I don't think...

    the way it is

I'd like to defend the notion "making it sound like analog." What people have discovered is that analog adds harmonic distortion to a signal that is pleasing to the ear. There are devices, like the Hedd, that introduce this phenomena into digital recording. PSP and MacDSP have plugs that do...

"Sound on Sound" Review on the C1 and the C3

I look forward to receiving my monthly subscription. The hardcopy version has the distinction of being printed on high quality paper, which is unusual for a recording rag and it really holds up well over time (if you don't spill coffee all over it...damn). It's pricey but I still find useful...

..getting sucked into the vortex of this particular black hole (har har).... I'm down with Fitz. Folks, don't take sweetbuns so seriously. He's just a bitchy old queen. Does anyone really think a box of software is going to replace a studio filled with iron? C'mon. But who would be so foolish...

    Dot's Mic & Mic Pre-Amp Session 1

Neat. I liked both API's too. Sounded best to my ears. I especially liked the 528 API and Beyer ribbon combo: silky and warm. A nice change of pace and a sound I personally prefer. Well, looks like I need two MORE pieces.... The B1 at +6 sounded best on the Abby vocal to my ears--even better...

    mic or mic pre???

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I was being facetious about the magic button, but isn't that why we buy new gear, hoping that it has one of those on it? I mentioned particular music because words like "detailed" are so subjective. My acoustic sounds good in the room I record in. It's not a great...

    mic or mic pre???

I have a few bucks to make some upgrades to my audio rig. One of the areas I'd like to address is micing acoustic guitar. Currently I'm using an NT1000 or Behringer ecm8000 and a Soundcraft M12 pre with a Washburn D21S. I'm not unhappy with the sound I'm gettting, but the sound I'd like to get...

    How Hot Levels at 24bit?

How hot should your levels be when you are recording at 24bits? I realize that recording too low causes digital distortion and that too loud causes clipping, but what is the safe range, where there is no discernable difference in quality? I usually try to bring my peaks as close to 0 as...

    Let's talk about Roland V-Drums...

I have the TD6 and it's simply a matter of splitting the notes from each pad to its own track in your sequencer and then soloing each to a track. So, even if you don't have 8 outs on your module you can still separate the drum sounds.
