Howdy...

I've heard a few things about these mics, but not enough to be convinced...anyone have first hand reviews or oppinions?

Thanks!

Got a chance to play with one recently.

I like it a lot for the money. Very neutral-sounding, unlike a lot of the other cheapo condensers that can be annoyingly bright or hyped.

Recommended.

I just bought 2. Unfirtunately I won't be tracking anything until after Xmas with them. So all I can say is the looks and weight are solid.

There is a comparison with these mics on www.thelisteningsessions.com. Most of the stuff is done on a B-3 though. But I think a B-3 is just a dual diaphram version of the B-1. So what you hear from the B-3 should be very close to what comes out of a B-1.

url doesn't work

Hey Beezoboy...that url down't work...

I've used the B1 on everything from a double Bass to drum toms and vocals. IMHO this could be the best inexpensive studio mic since the SM57

Yes... I've got two of them (had them for about two weeks now), and I think they're the best low cost LDC mic available anywhere.

No, I don't work for Alan Hyatt, but I will say that I've recorded vocals, acoustic bass, and an acoustic guitar with them so far and am totally amazed at how good they sound... very open, smooth with a bit of air on top, and absolutely huge. Although I'll probably continue to use a pair of SM-81's on acoustic guitar, the B1's did a great job none the less. The acoustic bass really floored me... detailed, full, almost bigger than life, but not hyped-sounding. I'm going to try them out on a few guitar amps and drum kits this weekend.

They're very sensitive, so if you're recording on a wood floor, buy the spider mounts. The B1 comes with a black mic pouch, a standard mic clip (looks a lot like an AKG D-112 mic clip), and a large foam wind screen... all for $80-$95 each! My two are very consistant sounding (I got consecutive serial numbered mics), and the build quality is as good as any mic I've seen. They are worlds apart, sound, consistancy and quality-wise, compared to a pair of Oktava 319's that I tested and returned a month ago.

On top of that, I'll have to say that Alan himself stands behind his products. I had a mic clip problem, which Alan followed up on personally. VERY impressive.

So, I think the B1 is a great LDC mic value... so much mic for so little money...

Yeah, for a project studio it's hard to see the downside to that mic. I have one and really like it for a variety of uses, including of course vocals and acoustic guitar. I too plan to mic my small tube amp with it soon. And on some vocals, it sounds better to my ear than my only other LD consdenser, the V-67G.

Well, I suppose this ought to say something. Today I bought a B.L.U.E. KIWI, an AKG C414B-ULS, a Shure SM7-B, and a Studio Projects B-1! Sometimes a good cheap mic is the right mic for the job, and by all reports, the B-1 is a very good cheap mic.-Richie

Well, mine smells funny and the mic clip's thread was stripped out of the box. Other than that it sounded ok on acoustic guitar and really good on my guitar amp with distortion. It's clean but doesn't sound as bright as my NT1000 on the amp. I'll probably use it along with my 57 all the time for that job.
