Well, thanks for the input guys. As badly as I wanted the Echo Mia, they're aren't selling em' anymore at my local guitar center. I just missed out on the deal they had , $99.00 each. Time to look at an M Audio Audiphile 2496 or Terratec DMX 2496.
The Echo Mia is discontinued and Guitar Center is out of them in my area (they were only $99.00 last month on closeout)
:(
So I'm narrowed down to these two audio cards.....Audiophile or Terratec.
Anyone have any last minute advice, one over the other, before I make my purchase?
Using it to...
If I ditch my Audigy 2 , and pick up the Echo Mia, will I still be able to apply, record and monitor soft synths in Sonar using my midi controller?
I'm plugged into the mobo USB port not the soundcard.
Also, I'm using desktop speakers for now , not monitors.
What will I need to pickup to...
Echo Mia
M Audio 2496
Terratec dmx 6fire LT
They're all similarly priced, so what makes one stand out above the rest?
I'm trying to convince myself I need a replacement for my Audigy 2 since that seems to be the consensus......
I believe that would depend on overall computer application, budget and recording needs, mine has worked flawlessly for 4 months and I couldn't be happier.....
Just my opinion.....
I had kicked the idea around between buying an Audigy2 or a AP2496 , but eventually decided on the Audigy for a few reasons.....
First of all. Price. I got the Audigy 2 for $80.00 and the AP is $150
Second..... compatibility. All my existing cords and plugs work with the...
Hi Jaymz....
Thanks, you always seem to be around when needed.
BTW, thanks again for your advice on a midiboard..... I stayed clear of the cheap yamaha and casio stuff I was looking at and bought a cheap midi controller instead (oxygen 8)
and for my needs, I couldn't be happier.
Your a...
I'm running soft synths in calkwalk via Midiman Oxygen and USB.....
I can save the files as midi files (*.mid) but can't figure a way to convert them.
Can someone help me out here?:(
Bass track, drum tracks and general synth sounds to incorporate into my guitar stuff.
Sonar/Cool Edit
Audigy 2 with midi input
Rock/Metal/Blues/Psychedelic
O.K.
I think I'm following you.
Basically, because the soft synths have a better overall sound quality, the midi controller might be a better way to go. (if I can work around the midi latency and figure out how to set up midi at all, which seems like a chore in of itself)
But, if I have any...
hmmmmm.....
O.K.
I have been kicking that around a little bit, but what if I needed on board sound for running direct into cool edit in real time?
And do any of the lower priced keyboards have "line out" as opposed to midi, so I could make my set up a little simpler?
thanks for the response...
I've been basically recording/mixing/editing - guitar tracks along with whatever loops I've been lucky enough to find on the web.
Now, I want to purchase a Key/synth that I can use to record drum, bass and some synth sounds as well.
I dont know squat about midi at this point, except that my...
Thanks for taking the time to reply Jaymz, I really appreciate it and you are definitely extremely knowledgable about the application.
But I guess what I'm really wondering is, do I need to use either A: A midi keyboard or am I stuck with B: A piano roll editor such as the one found in Sonar? Or...
I'm using my PC for recording and multi tracking guitar tracks, but would like to record the soundfonts that came with my Audigy2, to enhance and add ambiance to my recordings. I've been able to to play stuff from the soundfont bank using my PC keyboard (I know, I know.... pretty generic)...
