i had an nt1 for a while. it sure was "fantastic". i come from a place where everyone's fantasy is to have cymbals sound like a glass jar filled with nails.

What did I just do on eBay?!?! (Symetrix 522)

you could use it as a slightly colored limiter to track with... its not going to be the BEST vocal limiter, but it will work. it would be good for keyboards going straight in as well for a hair of color.

What did I just do on eBay?!?! (Symetrix 522)

stop freaking out. symetrix compressors fucking rule. i have a 501, and up until a week ago a cl-150. they are GREAT for destroying drums. lots of great usable distortion. also, when you dont push them they do a good clean and clear. i USED to own an RNC, but i sold it cause i liked my...

    Sennheiser e609 hangs??

it comes with a gravity neutralizer, so you just switch that on and it floats. you need the mic cable to tether it in place otherwise somone could bump into it and it could go into orbit! that is what they mean by "hang".

Good starter mic for guitar and vocals?

a cool mic? i suppose you have to be "into" mics to a degree, but let me explain what is cool about the B1 and what is cool about that sennheiser. B1 ulitarian (cool). cheap (cool). sounds pretty normal. considered prosumer in the engineering world (sort of cool sort of not). will decrease in...

    Good floor tom mic?

the m88 seems to very quickly give you a deep sounding floor tom by positioning it in the pointing at center, 3 inch up off the edge of the rim position. standard position really. i really like the oktava 319 on floor tom, as with the CAD condensers in the e or m series (i have tried both the...

    SQUASHED drums

here is a cool formula i have used to kill drums: one buss squashing compressor. MONO. use what you have, symetrix seems to do it for me (i used to use a cl-150 for this, now a 501). the free blockfish plug works well too. one buss to distortion. seriously roll off the top. this is your FAT...

Is there any point in buying MXL 603's if I have a couple of mxl 990's?

i meant the 603 and the 990. i called them "a line" because of the context of the original question (are they the same mic?). sort of confusing because it sounded like i meant to avoid ALL mxl mics. sorry. have i heard a 603? nope, but the 990 i used sounded colored in a way that i couldnt see...

Is there any point in buying MXL 603's if I have a couple of mxl 990's?

i just tracked some vocals with a friend, using his gear. his main vocal mic the 990. it sure feels nice. its heavy. it is friggin bright and has some nastiness up there as well. sort of reminds me of an NT1, but WORSE. i could imagine that cymbals through it are a nightmare. however, i could...

    pair of 666s and a cad m179

the ev 666's are in great shape (for 666's). the just dont seem to jibe with my pres very well, except my earthworks. where they sound really cool. anyway, a PAIR, only 25 serial numbers apart, from CBS studios in NYC. who knows what these mics have heard. my dream is that bob and ray used them...

Compressor, 'Verb, Delays... all in one?

the tc m300 does all that. the compression is uh.. not great, but the reverbs are good for the price. the delays are nice as well. $125 used? what are you planning on compressing? there are some very affordable outboard compressors that work well. symetrix, art, ashly, etc. you might want to...
