I found this thing at a swap meet for $5. It's a mic (radio?, telephone?) on a telescoping stick made in USA by Brush. It doesn't werk but it sure looks cool.

The back of it says "Patent Notice Inside" but I can't figure out how to open it to see what's wrong with it. It's not held together with screws and there doesn't appear to be a seam anywhere. I'm afraid to try and force it open. Has anyoen ever seen one of these? When was it made? How can I open it?

wow, that is cool lookin.

if you cant get it to work, i'll take it for $10. double your money!

You got an oldie!!

That's an old carbon element microphone. The front should unscrew and the element will fall out. There should be 2 spring contacts inside.

Don't worry about getting it working, these sounded like crap on their best day.

carbon mics do not sound like crap. they sound like fucking awesome crap.

under the snare man. under the snare.

vocals.

piano.

Cool! A carbon element mic, eh? When do you suppose it was made?

Like I said, I couldn't find a seam, even using a magnifying glass. I'll take another look and try to open it up. Thanks for the replies!
