I Need to Find a Mastering House

Ot Ryan, I noticed your Wilson's in your web site"s pic, I live about 5 minutes from where they make those... I installed their phone system a couple of years ago and got a full tour of how they make them and some different listening tests... all I can say about those speakers is WOW!

    BFD drum opinions

You are NOT going to get a finished kit sound out of the box. Like tracking a real kit, when mixing BFD you will need to gate, compress, and eq to have the kit as a whole sit in the mix and sound convincing.

Is it worth it to start a commercial studio?

Sound advice. This is what I do. I have about 40 hours per month to dedicate to the studio and recording others - it puts about $1000 to $1600 per month in my pocket, $250 of which goes to the wife/house to compensate for me kicking people out of the house when I record. So it pays for itself...

Revised Desk based on PK1's desk

update: I am back in town today so I had a chance to do some more work. Made the other sidecar, legs, and connected the desk to the sidecars. I am 240LBS and can sit on the table top and nothing creaks, moans or splinters - thats a good sign!. I can see that there are some things I wish I had...

    ethan's articles

Well.. I would want a very balanced sounding room then. Along with bass traps in corners, some broadband on the side walls I think I would want a little diffusion at one end of a room and a lot of absorption and diffusion on the other. The idea is to scatter the "ambiance" evenly so that you...

    ethan's articles

No. Flutter echo is a resonant echo that occurs when sound reflects back and forth between two parallel, reflective surfaces. You want to deflect the flutter echo not absorb it. Absorbing too much sound in your control room will cause you to add more high end which may in turn sound to shrill...

Revised Desk based on PK1's desk

pk1: yeah its 19 1/8. The angle looks weird in the pics. I don't like the screws in the front either. They are counter sunk so I will fill them. That panel, BTW, was an after thought. Fitz: Thanks, cutting a straight line has been the biggest challenge thus far! Here is a mock up of what I...

What's involved with laminating it? And would not that cost about the same as powder coating it?

Revised Desk based on PK1's desk

Originally the desk I started was based very loosly on the Argosy console for a FW1884. After looking at pk1's desk and understanding better how he put stuff together I decided to re-do the desk I started. I am not a carpenter and outside of basic framing and drywalling have not used wood...

OKay.. so I have been doing some re-design on my desk and taking from this thread to come up with some stuff... I have found that getting the cam screws to line up and be the correct depth is a big challenge. the directions on the package say that I need a 5/8 inch hole... but in reality I need...
