    Hamburg, 4047, MXL V67

The current ADK Hamburg (a newer version is in the works) is probably a step-up from the V67, but since you can find AT4047s on the 'bay for ~$350, it's a no-brainer IMHO. I finally bought an AT4050 after owning and modifying several Chinese LDCs and now what's left of my Chinese mics are for sale.

    dynamic vs.. condensor..just wondering..

I was going to say that the good condensers (non - Chinese capsules) are noticeably more "open" sounding to me. That is, they seem to allow some "space" around the sound instead of just picking up the sound by itself, making it more 3-D, shall we say. This would easily translate into more “room”...

    Banjo Mic

You're using a 990 on banjo and you want it brighter?!? Makes my ears bleed just thinking about this! :p Have you tried different positions? Hold the mic in your hand and move it around the banjo while listening through headphones to find the sound you want, then position your mic...

    Oktava MC012s with improved circuit.

I have two Oktava MC012s that I have modified for a much improved sound using higher quality components. This modification is similar to the one detailed by Scott Dorsey in the September 2003 issue of Recording magazine. They are not matched pairs, but do sound similar. These are great sounding...

sound clips of studio projects c4 and oktava mc012/mk012?

http://testing.holmerup.biz/mic_pretest/MP3index_en.html Unfortunately they only recorded vocals with the C4s – no acoustic guitar! Still, you can compare them with the vocal samples.

Acoustic Guitar Miking with AT4040 ( no matter the position, i always get boomy snd)

Yes, tdukex is right - you are probably too close. Hard to imagine a 4040 being boomy in some of the positions you mentioned, though.

    ADK Vienna Vs. Hamburg

I wouldn't suggest mixing this way, but any decent set of headphones will let you hear plenty of difference.

I agree - you are way ahead of chessrock! :D ;) Seriously, don't you just hate folks who get it right the first time... and don't even know it!!!

    ADK Vienna Vs. Hamburg

Yes, it takes a lot of investment up-front to get into places like GC. ADK is just not that large of a company (nor am I too sure that they are trying to be...) They have several dealers, though. Personally, I think they are a cut above the MXL stuff, but then they are more expensive too. But...

    Behringer B2?

Doesn't matter who's name is on it. It's made at 797 (they deny that, but it's true), uses one of the best of the Chinese capsules and doesnt sound bad for what it is.

Well then you have yourself an excellent mic and a decent sounding room to boot. Every part has a nice open sound and fits together great. Go, be merry, and record.

    V67g mods anyone?

Yes but you are not allowed to tell what it is because its secret! ;)

Well, that explains the signal path. What about processing? By the way, you won't hear as much difference as you would with better preamps. Also, a big disadvantage of the SM57 is noise. Since you need much more gain with the '57 than with the '44, you will be amplifying more preamp noise.

    V67g mods anyone?

You can do what Phil said and see how far that gets you. Next, re-laminate the transformer. The transformer is a 1:2 ratio and I don't know if anyone makes a replacement. Neumann goes straight from the FET into a 1:7 (or maybe higher?) ratio transformer and that's probably what you will find at...

First, thanks for posting this – I love mic demos. You’re right – the KSM44 sucks. But you are in luck because I will buy it off you for half of what you paid for it. Sell it to me quick before it deprecates anymore! :p The guitar is sort of plain-jane by itself (no offense, but I think...

    cascade mics

I have to agree - mine didn't sound that great until I dropped in the Dorsey board. Amazing what a good circuit and decent parts will do!
