    lowering air vent noise?

If you are renting all you can do is build some extensions for the ducts that are lined with soundproofing insulation to cut down the noise. If you make the new extension ducts larger than the existing duct it will also slow the air down, thus reducing the noise also. cheers john

    isolated drum practice room

RimShot - what you are doing is fine and it will fix your problem. Don't worry about the floor - sure some sound will get through the concrete but you can always float a floor later if necessary. My only question is why 8 x 8?? why not make each wall different so you start off with no parallel...

Is this a stupid idea for cheap(free) diffusion?

I'd fill them with plaster once I'd split them to give them some mass - otherwise they will only be high frequency diffusion. cheers john

    Dust

I have seen where you bring the AirCon in via the rear of the racks so there is always a positive air pressure around your gear so dust can't get near it. cheers john

Silica Beads - where do I get these?

Try your drug store - the guy that makes up prescription drugs should have some - they do here in OZ. Subtractor - you need silica beads when you are building studio windows. You put them in the cavity between the glass cos they soak up the humidity and stop the windows from fogging up. cheers...

    Drum Room Treatment

Michael - it depends on what sort of drum sound you are looking for. If you look at Left Bank's small drum room it's about the same size as your room and also has two walls entirely glass doors. The ceiling is fully treated with hangers and the opposite walls to the glass are either fully 703...
