MP20
I have an MP-20, and I'm very happy with it. I'd also characterize it as clean ... the pre doesn't color the sound, but it does seem to add noticable clarity to it, especially when compared to a crappy built-in pre that I've got on my digital recorder. I also like the IDSS knob that adds...
Very cool... I'm going to Sam Ash tomorrow. On my list are the DeArmond, a Fender Mexi, and an Ibanez GSR200.
Still don't have any advice as to what to look for though, so I'll use my common sense and the supreme wisdom of the sam ash salesman who has no reason not to lie to me.... ;)

Check it out on the sam ash website. The product is called "Tascam - US-428 Computer-Based Multitrack", and it's $500

I don't own one, never used one, and don't need one! But anyway, just trying to help out.

2dudes?
amonte - are you referring to the 2Dudes CD? I actually just ordered it this morning. I exchanged some emails with one of the dudes, Bill Lanham... nice dude. Anyway, if you order the CD they've got on the site there, you'll get a straight audio CD and you'll have to sample it with...
I think he's referring to a piece of hardware that you use with a PC DAW. It looks like a standalone multitrack recorder, but it is really a user interface that you plug into your computer and use to control your PC DAW, instead of a keyboard+mouse.

the C1
Telefunken -
I like the sound of the vocals on that song (I also like Utah too-- great skiing up there in Park City).
But it's hard for me to tell to what extent the Meek pre colors the sound-- my understanding is that it adds quite a bit of color to the sound... so it's hard to tell...
I second that one... the best way to learn is to teach yourself. You may want to look into an entry level digital multitracker. Not sure what your budget is, or what your needs are in terms of tracks, inputs, etc. This board is great for research on what to buy. Once you get a basic set-up...
Hey all,
I'm going to bite the bullet very shortly, and get myself a relatively cheap bass for recording purposes. I want to spend between $200-300.
I've got 2 questions:
1 - What should I look for in a bass? I'm a guitarist, I've got a musical background, but I don't really know what to...
Hey red,
I listened to Mir. It's a nice song... your female vocalist has a great voice--she should open up a bit more, because she sounds great.
I'd agree with the others... the drums are a little under-represented there in the mix, up until around 2:40 where they suddenly appear. They sound...
Hey Jags --
I'd say that the bass is now a bit too up front for the first couple minutes...and that's through my PC speakers that are a little bass deficient. So I'm guessing that the bass is WAY too loud.
I like the change in distorition on the big guitars part, but now it's drowning out the...
Rudd... unfortunately, a common problem with the BR8. Hasn't happened to me yet, for some reason.
Here's a $39 solution that someone recommended on the yahoo BR8 group:

compression
Bruce!
Since you're paying attention to this thread... could you help me out? When recording (digital) vocals and acoustic guitar, do you typically record with compression?
My choice appears to be, either record hot and use compression to help squash the clips, or record not as...
perfect pitch
Hey, you've done those perfect pitch courses? Wow, they've been in magazines forever.... with a picture of that cheesey guy with the bad haircut.
Tell me about the perfect pitch stuff...what do you do in order to identify notes like that? How do they teach you to teach yourself...
Yeah, nice and easy isn't it? And so crystal clear. You'll have to excuse me, but I'm a Trashcam Portastudio guy for years, so I'm kind of in heaven with this thing. It's revived my desire to write songs!
The bass sounds good... I want to listen to it on better speakers when I get home. So...
as a doornail, baby
I can't stand fresh strings on my guitar--too damn jangley. I love the sound of dead strings... they're nice and mellow, and they've got a nice warm sound to them. I like that tone better.
I wish they'd sell dead strings. Hey, if you guys are replacing your strings...
Cool, Rudd. Sounds like you're having fun with it. Did you use all BR8 patches, or did you mic stuff up? Hard to tell here on my laptop speakers here at "work". Did you do everything in the BR8, or did you use any external editing, PC's, etc?
