yeah... I've had so many drives fail this year I'm only buying seagates now because of the long warrenty... FWIW I had to do a recovery from a samsung which headcrashed...160Gig cost $500 at a local data recovery lab called Vioplex...really nice guys too.

were you hotswapping it? MOTU put a warning out against that a while ago as firewire isn't as hotswapable as initially thought... I burned up an iBook G4 myself before I found out :) (thankfully had 1 week on applecare left)

a number of devices are used and click is the most common... though often in film scoring a visual cue of a line scolling though the screen will be used to cue important visual moments.

I have an Edirol FA-66... though I havn't done much with it yet... very quiet even compaired to my old Aardvark Q10... can get power off firewire buss or DC adapter... limiter... and works in Windows, OSX, and Linux. and is 192khz

IMO the only real important difference between drives is the warrenty... Seagate usually has a 5 year plan... not knowing the warrenty situation on the PPA... it's probably OEM and therefore the disk probably has no seagate wannenty but one though PPA for whatever it is. personally I would buy...
