Micing an accordian?

I actually had to do that about a year back! If memory serves, I used a condenser mic about 1 foot away from the front, but I was purposely trying to capture the entire sound of the instrument, including the sound of the keys and the bellows moving.
It had a great sound (or at least the sound I wanted), very natural and lifelike...

What kind of condensor did you use?

It sounds like the same sound i want to capture, so i'll probably do it that way. Also, while on the subject of weird instruments, how about a mini electric fan organ?

If you're talking about a Bontempi (or something similar), that's hillarious cause I used one in the same piece! Again I guess it depends on how much organ vs. fan sound you want to hear - I mic'ed mine from above and behind with the same mic, a large diaphragm condenser - just a cheapie (apex 420 I believe).
You may want to play around with a dynamic like a 57 on the organ though, it may give you a nicer sound with less "air".... just a thought...

What I'm talking about is this, it's a Magnus..

I'll def try a bunch of directions though, see what i like. Any chance there's a copy of the song i could hear to get an idea of what it sounded like?

ah cool, ya same type of thing...
I'll try to PM you the file to check out.

I would probably start with a gallon of gasoline and a match... that should make a nice sound... :)

Just scour your local Goodwill and you should be able to find one for about 75 cents...
They sound like a wheezing old man with a harmonica stuck in his throat, but they can make for some cool effects (especially if you don't have access to a REAL old man with a harmonica lodged in his throat) :D

heh, i had one of those as a kid.
It was red, and then one day the fan caught fire whilst I was playing with it. Parents put it out.
I told them they coudln't throw it out, so the hid it in the roofspace. I found it a couple of years back and it bewildered me as to why such an instrument existed. And, to a degree, it still does.

Oh, and we did also have an old, wheezing man with a harmonica lodged in his throat at the time, so there was no need to salvage it from the darkness of my parent's roofspace (that place has got 25+ years of random "hidden" things in it...)

Ya, and plus they're tougher to mic, always signing for a glass of water or a doctor...

So my SP C-1 just came in the mail. Yay for slow delivery.

His best friends are my two mice; Blaster Destroyer and Optimus Prime.

You're jealous.

Get a hatchet and start chopping away at it......Oh crap I thought it asked how to dice up an accordian...never mind~ :o

Sleep with a local accordian player.

That should be a t-shirt. I would get so much more ass.

I don't think my girlfriend would like it ;)

Magnus Chord organ

If I remember correctly my mother had one of those Magnus organs, it was refered to as a "Chord organ" I believe. The buttons were various chords like minor/7th chords-(I think anyway, it was LONG ago)-and stuff and melody played on keyboard. Problem with recording it was that a fan was running very noisily all the time and will most likely over power the organ's sound. :(
