    thanx....the head room issue did come to mind, (I thought the wider tape the more "bash" it can take), but I admit ...never thought about crosstalk, separation bands etc...what a great place to learn...thanx again..:)

    reel person....yeah it is a very clean and sophisticated piece of gear indeed and I saw a couple of Studers on ebay too, but my problem is that most of the sellers are from the States, and I live in Australia....on Australian ebay site there's not many (in fact none when I checked last time)...

    sonarstar: what sort of reverb?? what efx unit(s)? if you use software for your effects, they're all set to wet signal once you turn them on...you have to turn them way down...are you doing that??
