make sure the instrument or mic is at least 10 feet from the PC. Shut off the monitor while recording .. just to see. make certain that your levels aren't too high and that there's no clipping going on. make certain that power cables and audio cables are running at 90 degrees to each other.

dachay2tnr is right. defrag regularily so that when you record, your wave files will be in a nice contiguous space (hopefully) on your drive, otherwize, chunks of your wave files may find themselves scattered all over the place. This would affect the loading time of your project.

I'd drop the monitors altogether and get dual projectors. why stare at a screen when when you can have the picture on your wall? It would certainly save space on the o'l desk now wouldn't it?
