    anyone use a pod?

Just picked one up to try out. So far it's kinda neat but I'm not through it yet. What do you guys think of the unit? Do you actually go direct through it to the board using the A.I.R. thingy? Does it sound good that way or is miked better? Yeah I'd imagine using the real stuff would work...

    anyone try this?

Anyone try vocals to a preamp, then miked amp, back to the recording device? A friend said this may give some natural compression. I think it may just induce alot of noise. Heh. I currently go from the mic to a pre to the board.

    60's & 50's rock sound??

tried it out Thanks for the tips! So far it's getting better but most of the stuff I'm recording is for working on the songwritting itself, trying different guitar/bass setups, and singing/lyrics etc. I'm mostly still using a drum machine (puke!) but occasionally I can mike up a real drummer...

    60's & 50's rock sound??

I don't have my hands on too much real vintage stuff, but I do use tubes everywhere. I mic everything except the bass. I'm kinda wondering about techniques people would use back in the day too

    60's & 50's rock sound??

My stuff is definately more punk but it does lend itself an aweful lot to 50's and sixties stuff, like the zombies, kinks, valens, even orbison and presley. It makes sense as I was raised on it. Anyway, what do you guys think about getting this sound? flat guitar, alot of verb on a dry...

    VF08 and Philips CDR775

I use it for data backup to cd, since my computer's not well equiped enough to backup to it. I plan on using a DVD to get the data off. Hopefully that will work, but I havn't tried it yet with the new one I bought.

    VF08 and Philips CDR775

I just use the optical. There probably isn't much of a difference though.

    what effects where?

I like to put maybe a touch of reverb on vocal. It depends on the song, generally I try to do no processing whatsoever on vocal tracks. But sometimes.... well if the song can get away with it, I'll even have crotchy distortion and flange on it. Generally speaking though, the less I play with it...

    VF08 and Philips CDR775

on a DMT-8 & 765---- I know it's not the exact same setup but pretty similar. I use the optical connection. However, I can mix down that way, and I can back up off of it.... but I can't retrieve the backups. I believe your recorder is easier to backup though, so that's not a big deal. Just...

I would like to go to the Crossroads and sell my soul!

johnson Check out www.deltahaze.com I made the website for the company that owns johnson's music. Currently it's down from ISP problems but the owner is pretty much the authority on johnson. It explains the crossroads pretty well. I can't remember the exact location, but it is pretty easy...

    BEST TIPS!!

felt that one Never saw the movie though. more tips ( I can't access page 2 and so I hope I'm not just rehashing stuff.) I'm a novice though. 1) Plan your tracks. Especially those guys with limited setups. Just being absolutely certain about what you're going to do helps you out. 2) Don't be...

    Sharp/Flat Vocals: What's the deal?

some more input.... Dude, I've had singers that sang slightly flat or sharp at times.... to get them to realize they were doing this (without recording and playing them back) was to hook thier mic up to my tuner and have them sing to my tuned guitar.... and they could see that they were just...

    vocal distortion

yeah.... I was mostly meaning to try and get the same volume without using a mic at all, just naturally. Although moving the mic does help. I find it especially hard to do that naturally at times.

Britney Spears, 'N Sync and others

I agree 100%! But, then again, this is something that's been around for awhile. The 80's and 70's had plenty of heartless overproduced pop... I'm kinda getting used to it. Not everyone's into punk like me. The recording industry in general is a beast. At least with these bands, we know up...

Main Traits for Songwriting (my opinion)

I'd disagree a little. The drum/other rythmic events are getting just as important as the rest. I'd say too, for writing a song, having some skill with an instument is a must. Even if that's just singing. But, too many writers fall into the trap of favoring their particular instrument and...

    vocal distortion

don't know... How good of a mic that is. I used an inherited mic once and had the same problem. No clipping, but the signal was distorted by the mic. Now I use better mics! Maybe this mic has had it. And... well just because you said it was on the high notes, it may be strictly due to the...

    Shure SM58 vs Senhieser E835

shure I don't know for certain about the other but I have the shure and I like it- The pickup seemed to be a little better than the senn when I tried them out. And I havn't really gotton the mic to break up yet either. But that's only limited exp. with it. The shure seems about...

Philips or similar cdr users please help-

Hi guys. I've been reading this forum for awhile but I'm at my wits end trying to backup my dmt-8 to a cd. Some of you guys have similar setups that may help me out. I have a philips 765 dual deck cdr. It has optical IN but not out. So I can archive it, but I want to make sure I can retrieve...
