I've been looking for the best way to route my Alesis SR-16 drum machine into a Tascam 424 mkIII. I'd like to keep drums & cymbals separate through the two sets of stereo outputs, so I can keep the stereo panning and effect my drums and not the cymbals. Any ideas on how to do this without using four tracks?

Yo Hamering one:]

I have an SR 16 Alesis drum box but also have the better Boss 770 drum box.

If you only have 4 tracks, [this I'm assuming] you might run the drum feed into 4 tracks and bounce down to two tracks. But, I'm not sure if this would give you the stereo panning you are looking for.

If you are using a preset on the SR16, you can only pan left/right; I don't think you can pan the individual drum parts on the patch.

If you write your own drum patch, it still comes through the same way that the preset comes through which is semi-stereo.

You might sound this out on the Alesis forum?

Good luck

you can....

yes you can set the individual parts to left or right, and assign them to the different outputs. It's in the drum kit setup.
