I'm really interested in some reviews. I'm in the market for an interface and I'm curious to know how it stacks up to others like the Audiofire12, Motu and RME. Seems they all have just slightly different features. I've got external Pres so I'm sort of leaning toward the Echo but the Mackie...
Thanks. I'm finally putting together my studio (in my new house) and I'm dealing with all the stuff I've read about but didn't really understand. I've been dealing with all-in-one boxes until recently. Looks like I'll be needing to read my manuals again and possibly buy some more gear.
I finally ran into my first balanced/unbalanced problems. I bought a balanced patchbay to hook all my gear (mostly balanced) and found out that the outputs of my workstation are unbalanced as well and one of my monitors are unbalanced and so is my soundcard interface (arg). So I was initially...
I finally got a call back from M-Audio and I've ordered a replacement woofer (from them). Cost was $45 + shipping so I'm still well under getting a new set of monitors. I guess I'll have to be a little bit more careful next time on how much I push the amp.
I bought a used pair of BX8's recently for listening to music in my office (and possibly using them in my studio) but one of them has developed a disturbing crackling/distortion sound. I tried switching the speaker channels and the sound followed the monitor. I'm pretty sure it's the woofer and...
The username is a bit of a misnomer now. I only have one Taylor (a 414K). It was my first acoustic guitar. I've got a bit of a collection going now, Larrivee, Lowden, Breedlove, and others, sort of across the board as brands go. I really don't look for my next guitar it just sort of finds me...
DMP3 to Sytek is the way I've progressed thus far and I've been happy with the change. I've been doing some recording lately in my new house and I'm amazed at how much better everything sounds just being in a better room (I'm going to be moving to my basement soon). I think the DMP3 is a really...
I'm suprised it hasn't been mentioned yet, but I started with a DMP3 and still like to use it when I try to sing. It has a significantly different sound than the Sytek (which I highly recommend) I'm using now but still is very quiet and has lots of gain to spare. I got mine used but you can pick...
It's a biker bar so typical rock bands to the best of my knowledge and the bar is a decent size (a few hundred people comfortably). Not sure if it's supposed to be a permanent installation or not (likely not), just sort of doing some research to give the owner a few options from the cheap 4...
I really like my set of 603's. They sound really good in my new room. A set of Oktavas would do the trick too but will cost a bit more. I've got a single carioid one but I've been contemplating getting the matched 3 capsule pair lately. The 603's work well enough that I can't justify it at the...
I'm wondering what a good setup would be for a house system to handle bar bands. A coworker of mine owns a bar and I'll like to help her get setup for handling shows. (Maybe I'll even get to play soundman).
Beyond stereo micing the band and running through a PA, what would be an adequate system...
Well, I think I'll try and get some new connectors and try to salvage the cable. It did last about a year. I've got other Hosa cables and they're still fine (and over a year old). The sad thing is I've hardlly used this particular cable. Now that I'm getting more serious about my recording and...
I think you'll be happy with the M179. It's a very quiet mic and with all the different pattern options you can do quite a bit with it. I haven't really used it as a vocal mic, I use my AT3035 or V67G, but I use it for my acoustic guitars and it sounds pretty good to me, especially more towards...
I've been putting together my studio again now that I have a house and can dedicate some space to it and I'm in the process of getting everything cabled up when I've learned my first lesson of you get what you pay for. Once I got everything setup I wanted to test a mic through my fancy new...
I have a bunch of cheap mics (most of the popular budget ones) and as I was doing some recording with them in my new studio room and I got to thinking. I've done a couple of comparison tests before where I set each mic in as much the same spot as possible and set the same levels and stuff to see...
I haven't really played around much mic'ing my 12 string yet but I do have most of the mics mentioned here. The two mics I find myself favoring lately for my six string stuff are the CAD M179 and an older Oktava MK012.
I'll try and do some test recordings with the mics I've got on my 12 and post...
I've been searching around looking for portable hard disk recorders lately and was curious if anyone else has had much luck in finding something useful. What I really think would be cool is an iPod with a line in but that's a little bit away from what I've heard. I'm looking for something like...
I really like the CAD M179 for a 'cheap' all-around mic. I like my B1 too but the M179 is multi-pattern (and more expensive) and worth a look. I'd take a look at the new 20 series AT mic too. I really like my 3035 and I'm guessing the 20 series will be right up there in the entry level.
