    ProjectMix or Digi 002?

I'm actually going to be using mainly my own pre-amps, unless it comes to a drum kit or something requiring more than 6 mics. I'm definitely leaning towards the ProjectMix - thanks for the input :)

a new direction for me what do think

Love the bell-like guitar tones! What guitar/pickups/amp are you using in this song? Definitely Dire Straits esque in the runs, especially, clean and sweet :)

    ProjectMix or Digi 002?

I'm looking to upgrade my mixer to either the m-audio projectmix or digi's 002 in the near future to run pro tools (m-powered or le, respectively). Any suggestions on which one? I also do a considerable amount of work in reason 3.0, and the bonus of being able to use the projectmix with reason...

Event Studio Precision 6 or Dynaudio BM5A

The BM6As sound FAR better than the 5As in my opinion; they've got a ton more depth and seem to handle faster transcients with ease. Before you drop the money for those, however, check into the Event 20/20 bas monitors. You can find them in great shape on ebay for around the $300 mark. Some...

Diffs between powered and unpowered monitors? Entry-level recommendations < $300?

A friend of mine recently picked up some Event PS8s (powered, 8in sub w/tweeter) off of ebay for under $250 with shipping included, and the sound beats any of the KRKs i've ever heard. Of course, i've only listened to the ones at guitar center, and the KRK yellow cones make them especially...

    hooking up my pre amp

I bought one of these a while back under the same impression. If i were you, i would go for the Projectmix, or just an 1814 if you're low on cash. I think the 1814s go for a little under 350 on ebay, so you may actually save a little bit of money if you bought the 410 new. What program are you...

You never know; it might sound kinda cool, haha :p

    Metal Tone

Just joking about the pedal combo by the way...wanna make that clear :) That chain was intentionally murder - every crappy pedal i could think of rolled in to one. Wouldn't want you guys to think i'm braindead :p

    Metal Tone

If you're really looking for a kickin' metal tone, just follow these directions: 1. Buy a Boss DS-1, a Danelectro D-3, a Rogue DST-5, an Arion MTE-1, and a Boss SD-1. 2. Buy as many high quality monster patch cables as you can - the more we can preserve your tone while going from pedal to...

    Listen Please

What kind of mic/pre combo are you using? The vocals definitely sound a little...through-a-can-ish. Overall, though, not bad at all :)

    Mastering fiasco

There's numerous mastering plugins for pro tools floating around out there, and i've heard good stuff about one in particular called Ozone. http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/ozone/ I've never tried it, but it can't be any worse than digi's mastering plugin, maxim :)

    preamp transformers

kojdogg- just out of curiosity, how do you like the 7602? I'm in the market for pres right now, and the 7602 is one that i was considering. What kinda instruments/genres do you use it for? Buying new stuff always kinda scares me when i can't hear it, but owner testimonials are always good :)

    preamp transformers

That's like asking which is more important - the car's engine or the wheels? They both do different things, and are crucial to electrical signals from your instrument turning into amplified sound.

    Setup

Yeah, that's my vote. I just picked up a pair of Event 20/20 bas monitors on ebay for under $400 with shipping, and they definitely kick. Quite useful for the home recording side of things, and incredibly accurate imaging for the price. You might check them out if you get the chance; there's...

    The Blue Bird Microphone....

Good mic, though, even if it's not depressed :P I've used one quite a bit on acoustic guitars, and, though a little bright at times, a cool mic for under $500.

    Peavey Windsor Amps

Haha, have to stop myself from using this kind of logic every time when i go into guitar center and pass the behringer stuff. GC Salesman: Sir, do you realize that for the cost of that focusrite pre you're considering, you could buy three of every behringer product we carry? Me: GET BEHIND ME...

    Metal Tone

Another thing to consider is the volume that you'll be playing at - I have to crank my fender deville REALLY to get a good, nasty distortion from the power amp section, but my AC30 distorts nicely at a regular concert volume. Like everyone has said, though, preamp section matters. A lot. I...

    help me out

The epi dots are pretty smooth guitars - not too very different from the gibson ones, in my opinion. Just swap out the stock pickups and you're set. I have a friend who even re-did the headstock by removing the epi logo and inlaying the gibson pearl :) Total cost = < $500
